"O.K. Will someone explain WHAT economic state we are in PRESENTLY [and for the last 2 years?] "
Tell it, GreenLady.
Matter of fact, we're now in a deep recession bordering on depression; what's more, because of the devalued dollar, it is a global recession. A few more bank failures and precipitous drops in property values, with a rise in inflation as well as a continued rise in the national deficit and, voila!, we're soon to be in the midst of the mother of all depressions from which it will take a lot longer to recover than from last century's.
The Emperor Dim Son just released figures that <s>President</s> Senator Obama will inherit a half billion dollar deficit that doesn't include the last $80 billion Iraq invasion/occupation funding nor the stimulus dough.
Read MY lips, Pappy Bush - your sorry, drunken, cokehead dumb as a sack of hair son and his sidekick the war profiteer Darth 'Shooter' Cheney, have already plunged us.

So I decided to explore this term MAVERICK as it relates to "MCANCIENT: -1. an unbranded calf, cow or steer, esp. an unbranded calf that is separated from its mother. [Lest I be accused of "playing the dozens", I decided to set this definition aside for a minute.] -2. a lone dissenter, as in a political figure who takes an independent stand apart from his associates. [O.K. This appears to work.]
Then I looked for some articles on "MCANCIENT" as a "MAVERICK". As it turns out, there are arguments on BOTH sides.
1.According to Dan Payne(7/3/08) - "McCain Is NO Maverick." He cites 2 areas of support: In the May 2008 edition of "mcancient's" hometown newspaper - The Arizona Republican- his Senate record shows that since 1999, he has almost NEVER strayed from the Repug. Party line. The Washington Post reported that his voting was 88.3% with the GOP vote and he was on Shrub's side for legislative action - 95% of the time!
Additionally, you will appreciate the "LOVE FEST" Shrub-"mcancient" picture which is used quite frequently! :>)
ENTER the concept of his FLIP-FLOPS: e.g., -FLIP: "I would NOT support the REPEAL of Roe v Wade"; FLOP: Recently, "I do NOT support Roe v Wade. It SHOULD be OVERTURNED>"
So now I'm having a dilemma!? But, if I were to state an opinion [based on these DATA? :>)], I would conclude that the term "MAVERICK" as it relates to "mcancient" is the new, POLITICALLY CORRECT term for C-O-N-F-U-S-E-D!!!!
Whew!! DEEP BREATHS!!!! :>) :>) :>)

Jon Voight is clearly of the tin-foil hat variety....that piece in the Washington Times reeks of somebody holed up in a cabin deep in the North Dakota woods stockpiling weapons and fertilizer. Just look at him...you know he's cutting out letters from magazines to put together his manifesto that he will send to the FBI. Lord, I just hope Obama's security detail has his name on a watch list.

Lou Dobbs is on my f*cking tv snorting about Obama's failure to increase his poll numbers after his trip....he uses a sing-song, mocking tone for effect. He shows a graphic of a poll of likely voters where McCain is slightly ahead and says that McCain has "reversed" Obama's earlier lead.
Courtesy of No More Mister Nice Blog I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE KOOL-AID, SENATOR McCAIN
I'm probably being naive, but this post by The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder gives me hope that the press might actually be rethinking its love for John McCain.
Ambinder tells us that
USA Today calls a new McCain ad "a marker on the path toward the kind of simplistic, counterproductive demonizing that many expect will poison the fall campaign." Andrea Mitchell of NBC News describes the McCain campaign's latest ad, about Obama and injured troops, "literally not true."
Ambinder says these are signs of (as he puts it) an elite (i.e., media) backlash against McCain's tone. Is he right?
It seems hard to imagine the media turning on McCain; then again, until sometime in 2005 it seemed hard to imagine the media turning on George W. Bush. The change resulted came not because journalists finally figured out that the administration's policies were awful, but because they concluded that the administration had deceived them on a number of issues. That was unforgivable.
Something like that may be happening again. McCain did promise that, even though 527 groups run by unwashed troublemakers might go negative in this campaign, he, heaven forfend, wouldn't. The press actually believed McCain. And now, shockingly, he's gone negative! The press loses its innocence!
****
Ambinder advances a theory about what's going on with McCain:
The cadre of McCain allies who aren't part of the campaign are very worried. They believe that McCain's current crop of advisers are playing to his worse instincts, particularly his pride and his ego. When McCain is privately content, he comes across publicly as happy-go-lucky and magnanimous; satisfied; when he is combative, he comes off as combative and reactive. They worry that he is obsessed with Obama's character and willing to attribute motives to Obama that are simply unbelievable outside of an echo chamber filled with those who are predisposed to believe Obama's a phony.
On one hand, this theory jibes with the myth of McCain -- that he's unusually noble and that he's not really a partisan Republican, except when evil forces conspire to make him that way.
On the other hand, maybe there's something to this -- maybe McCain really is abandoning his usual McCain-advancing jujitsu, the appearance of eclecticism that's made him a Republican big-leaguer by concealing his Republican-ness, and he's doing so because he's fallen in with advisers who are basically Freeper/Limbaughnista cultists, with the result that now, in the eyes of the press, he's losing the veneer of maverickness that's always preserved his brand. In other words, maybe the cultists pushed his temper buttons until he started acting like them because they wake up every day shouting "All Democrats are pure evil!" into the mirror and couldn't stand working with anyone who didn't, much less working for someone who didn't.
If so, it's yet another sign of the Monica Goodling-ization of John McCain. All by himself, of course, McCain has spent this campaign flip-flopping to bring himself into compliance with right-wing dogma, and he's gotten himself to the point where he could almost certainly pass Goodling's hiring litmus tests. But that's not good enough -- either he or his aides want him not just to advance wingnut policies but to sound wingnutty. Maybe it's the last step in his gang initiation. Whatever's going on, maybe it really will open the press's eyes -- I doubt it, but let's hope.
****
...OR: As Aimai says in comments, a simpler explanation is that this is McCain's real (i.e., angry) personality -- excessive anger is something he can pull off without assistance, thank you very much.
Well, sure -- but the crafting of the message, particularly the ads, isn't something he can do solo. So we have an angry McCain and a team helping him turn that anger into the public face of the campaign.
A hallmark of Bush's team was always thuggish attack politics on the part of surrogates, accompanied by a pious insistence that the president himself despised partisan attacks and wouldn't engage in them. I imagine the Bushies were comfortable with that division of labor because they felt secure in the knowledge that Bush, like them, really did despise Democrats. The dogmatists don't trust McCain on that score, so they want to hear him get nasty. And, yes, he's clearly willing to comply.
And to think I used to like his acting. What a nutcase. No wonder why his daughter has never uttered a good thing about him.
djchefron
His kind the top 5% dont have to worry about filling his tank up at $60 a pop or worry about milk and eggs costing a lot more for the average family, See if you are rich like McCain's economic advisor Phill Gramm said its all mental. Remember reTHUGS motto YOYO(You On Your Own)
But there is a sense that American voters may not be taken in again and that they may actually enjoy as president someone who isn't an inbred moron or a senile fratboy.
(...)
The truth is that [Michelle] Obama is expected to play a certain role: strong, angry, overbearing, and every one of her statements is demeaningly parsed in that light. If every word uttered by McCain were analyzed and reported to fit the stereotype of the rich, spoilt, husband-stealing white woman that she is, all would be fair.

Saw Del Waters - author of "The Race" & employee at Ebony - on Hardball. OoooooEEE! Did a MAJOR defense for Mr. Obama on his being called "arrogant". Basically, he said that "You gotta understand that if another [white] candidate would have made his statements - in Virginia - that candidate would have been called confident." The bar has, continually, been raised on Mr. Obama during this campaign. In Germany, even, the audience was 250,000+. What SHOULD he have had -251,0000??
As my mom always told me, "Honey, you've got to be twice as good as them; and then there will be something else that you will need!"

I read that differently. Even the rep from Gallup was saying the registered voters is the better model and the likely should be treated as a hypothetical about voter turnout. A little late to stop the confusion, but its in Chuck Todd's quotes.
Here's my comment: "Whycome" he has these times of verbal "steps-in-it?? -He forgets what page he's on -He has NO LOYALTY to either position, and therefore, NO position. 'cause it feels as if he and the Repugs are still looking for a consistent platform and there are less than 98 days to find it! :>) -He simply lacks LEADERSHIP SKILLS! And this causes confusion[to say the least] in the FOLLOWERSHIP! So what do they believe? anything, everything? ---BUT FIRMLY and PASSIONATELY!! :>) :>) Whew! Deep breath! :>)
P.S.: There is continuing news coverage on this earthquake.
Hmm, they are saying there have been 2 aftershocks, but I haven't felt them. I'm just west of downtown LA. Some of the people they are interviewing outside of City Hall look frightened.
Truth is, when I lived in Birmingham AL, there was an earthquake that was felt for miles and it was only like a 4.0. They can happen most anywhere, though because California has so many huge faults, it happens often here. You got your earthquakes here, your tornadoes there, your tsunamis/tidal waves in other places. Here a quake, there a quake, everywhere a quake quake. Heh.
This was nothing like the one in 1987, I believe, when it was like a 6.0+ and lasted about 10 seconds. That time, some stuff got broken in my place and there were hundreds of disturbingly strong aftershocks. This time, the only thing that fell in my place was the DSL modem that I have sitting on top of some books. No harm, no foul though.
Other than that, all is well. Anyway, whatever my lot, God has taught me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul!

The paper and certainly the authorities didn't give a damn about her. The FBI and the local police couldn't secure evidence, couldn't conduct a ground search and all the comments from the authorities regarding this was "we were looking for a missing woman." POLICE DENY BAN ON BLACKS Tom Miller in Beijing July 19,2008
Police in Beijing's popular Sanlitun bar district deny they are conducting a racist campaign ahead of the Olympics, as another bar owner revealed he had been ordered not to let in blacks.
"They made us sign and chop a document saying we would not allow black people in [during the Olympics]," the owner said. "But no one is willing to say so because we'll all get deported ... and have our business shut."
Asked yesterday whether they had told landlords not to let blacks in bars, an officer at the Sanlitun police station had a one-word answer: "No."
The bar owner said police had given landlords a list of dos and don'ts during the Olympics. "We simply can't let them in [during the Olympics], it's what I was told," he said.
"It's [the restrictions on blacks] definitely happening. It will all happen in 24 hours."

Does anybody thinks it is odd that none of the top-ranking Democrats are not coming out to defend Obama?
Remember that not even half of Congressional Democrats supported Obama in the campaign, and he got even less support from black elected officials and the CBC.
Had it not been for what I call the 'fathers of the Democratic Party' (Kennedy, Kerry, et al.), there would not have been an Obama presidential campaign.
Pelosi defends Barack. But the Democratic leadership is still getting used to Barack as party standard bearer. So no, it's not odd. It just shows that Barack is still the underdog.
I've been complaining about that since Hillary launched the kitchen sink because seeing the super delegates go into seclusion for the duration of the primary struck me as a bad omen about what the general election would be like. The Dem leaders had one good day since then: when they all came out and pounded Bush because he accused Obama of appeasement. Since then, their efforts have been sporadic at best and hardly anyone has shown their faces since the FISA debacle. Maybe it has to do with being bogged down in the House and Senate fighting off filibusters and cloture votes but they still need to have more surrogates out there hitting back against McCain and the GOP.

The reason behind McCain's ad was to steal some airtime from Obama. The substance of the ad doesn't matter as much to Team McCain as just shifting media attention away from Obama.
Add to that, John didn't visit the wounded soldiers in Germany. He had a fundraiser instead. HIs entire trip was a CODEL paid for by the taxpayers. So what was he doing raising money as though he were on a campaign trip?

Barnicle offended Andrea Greenspan (and even me) yesterday when he said "let's hope he (Obama) makes better use of his [thinking] time than [Billy Jeff] did." and that twit Howard Fineman concurred.
AMG was very disapproving of the statement and chastised them both; Barnicle apologized to her just before the break.
Now I'm no fan of Billy Jeff, never have been, since I partially blame both him and Alan Greenspan for the squeeze on jobs/employment/wages, as well as all the deregulation that led to the economic and financial mess that we're in. Former Ramstein medical chief denounces McCain
VoteVets, the pro-Democrat group of retired military personnel, counters McCain's Black Hawk down statement with some outrage from Col. Katherine Scheirman (Ret.), the retired Chief of Medical Operations for United States Air Force in Europe Headquarters at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany:
"John McCain's new ad is dishonest and shameful, and I say that as the former Chief of Medical Operations. Senators Hagel and Reed confirmed to Bob Schieffer yesterday that Senator Obama visited the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad as a part of their CODEL, with no media present.
"In Germany, Senator Obama made the right decision to respect wounded troops, and the doctors and nurses doing crucial and time-sensitive work, by not making a visit that was characterized as a campaign event by the Pentagon. Senator Obama should be thanked for putting our military above politics. And, I would hope that John McCain would think in those same terms, the next time he is put in a similar situation.
"Senator Obama has voted for the troops when John McCain has not, most recently on the new GI Bill. I am happy that Senator Obama puts the welfare of our troops above politics."
Also, it's notable that Obama's camp, quick to respond to most every charge and ever-conscious of not repeating the mistakes of Kerry, has yet to go on the air with a spot pushing back against McCain's charge on the troop visit. Apparently, they won't unless McCain puts real money behind his spot and goes beyond just gaming it for earned media.

Well, if the song is about lynching I'd hate to see the movie its based on. Toby Keith, man enough to diss three ladies at once, also wrote those xenophobic hatefests about Arabs around the time the Iraq war started. He's an opportunistic slob who loves to promote bigotry to make a buck.

eclecta: "STRANGE FRUITS" was, initially, a poem written by Abel Meeropol, [circa, 1930] a Jewish high school teacher, about the LYNCHING of 2 Black men in Marion, Indiana. His pen name was LEWIS ALLEN [named after his two children]. The poem was made into a SONG and popularized by Billie Holiday - approximately 1937- ish. It was sung by Diana Ross in the movie "LADY SINGS THE BLUES".[circa 1960's]
Wasn't hanging an acceptable form of capital punishment for a long time in this country?

Yeah you are right it was acceptable for the good old boys to gather up the town folks for a saturday night hanging party of the "darkies" oops I mean gangsters for entertainment.I know you have more sense to see that this record is nothing more than code words for lynching.Click on this link and think about what you are saying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs
