I don't agree with all of the political opinions on this blog but congratulations on a very courageous post that speaks out against what is happening to Steve Cohen. More people should speak out – where's Obama on this one?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking him (though being to the left of the CBC isn't something I'd be proud of)….the view from where I am is just a lot more cynical. Hell, it's effective pandering (maybe? We'll see if he wins).

I seriously doubt that if he was representing a city in Montana (for example) or that we didn't have a black candidate for president, that this would've even come up.

Perhaps, but he still has a voting record to the left of many of the CBC and has, to my knowledge, a very good job for his constituents. So pandering he may well be, but his voting record seems to be that of someone with substance.

Emily's List is suspect; they have thrown their support to GOPers who have told them to their face they plan to enact legislation that would eliminate groups like theirs.

They already promised our descendants 40 acres and a mule. They STILL have not paid that debt. Until it is acknowledged and remedied the full potential of this nation will never be realized. We'd own what was left of the country after discounting all the foreign investments and loans.

I agree with Obama's position also. I like the idea of volunteer service in order to earn approx. 4K for college. What I don't understand is poor whites believing they need Affirmation Action. Poor Blacks did not receive Affirmative Action. Black parents worked and sacrificed to send their children to college. It wasn't as though we got some type of free ride. I must admit I resent this to a certain extent.. Every group wants to jump on the bandwagon when in reality, our ancestors were the only ones whose bondage resulted in wealth creation for this country but we are never the beneficiaries. Reparations in cash would be out of the question, but there should be some other equalizer
which only we benefit from.

I tend to take Obama's position on this. We know that people will scream bloody murder if the word “reparations” is mentioned, but making sure every child has affordable healthcare and making college affordable will go a long way toward addressing the disparities.

I'm paraphrasing Barack's position but that's the gist of it.
Baby steps are always better than no steps at all.

I didn't know much about either candidate, but this sure gives me a pretty clear picture.

I think the problem with a formal apology is that it would be an admission of wrongdoing.
If the US admits wrongdoing, then it would be expected that some type of rectification would be required. That is why the US does not want to give the apology IMO
