Sepia: Co-signing. Actually, I read about a “Sister 2 Sister”[I think that was its name; could be mistaken] Conference that was made up of a coalition of sorority-BGLO's. It happened last month. I'll try to look for a reference.

Jelana: I think that I need to start all over again. I was stimulated by this article to think that someone was going to criticize this HONOR given to Mrs. Obama. So I was attempting to address that criticism by stating that there is NOTHING WRONG with membership in a GLO. I went to a predominantly white undergraduate university and the GLO's practically ran campus life. And after graduation, GLO grads got jobs and other appointments based on that membership – not necessarily merit. You know – a kind of AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!
In my attempt to state that Mrs. Obama should NOT be criticized for joining a BGLO, I attempted to diffuse an argument that had not yet been made-that BGLO's favor each other and this could be seen as “elitist”.
So since no one has made that argument and I appeared to be “debating” myself, I apologize. :>)
So – bottom line- CONGRATULATIONS Mrs. Obama.
Oh, I am a BGLO member. :>)

Despite Madree Penn White being my great grandmother, I've little knowledge of how many BGLO's work. Is an honorary member considered the same as a pledged member?

I agree that some “people” may try to take issue, but I'm just guessing here, but I don't believe that Obama and Michelle didn't discuss the pros or cons of accepting this invitation. To me, and I would hope most people, the pros will outway the cons. I'm kinda of the mind that the only way to confront some racial bias/prejudice is to just don't worry about what the racist mind would do when making decisions. If we as a people didn't do things because we thought that white america would misunderstand, then we may not have had the civil rights struggle at all, or for that matter we would not now be on the precipice of what may be the 1st African American president of the United States and the first “minority” president of a Western nation.

Over at the WaPO Poll, he's up 50-42, but guess what's the lead?

What do they lead with? McCain is more knowledgeable on world affairs.

The media can't have Obama blow this thing open and sink their profits they expect for the fall. They need this race close. They need this race down to the wire. They need controversy. Obama can't win this thing running away or a lot of people lose a lot of money. Remember that when you read Halperin and watch TV.

I called 60%-40% in the beginning of June. I did not anticipate the media's response. Naive me. Well, McCain is such a bad candidate, that even with the entire media establishment propping him up, he still hasn't broken 45% in any poll that I have seen besides a daily tracking poll. 45% won't cut it come November. By the way, I think things are so bad in this country that people are paying attention. That bodes well for Obama, and I still think my 60%-40% is still possible.

I have no qualms with her being in AKA. I would have guessed her to be a Delta, but AKA is just fine. Heck, if she was a Link, I wouldn't have cared.

Like I said, maybe this will actually get her a mention at The Black Socialite..LOL
