I'm not a Christian but I don't see anything arrogant about it. He's saying he wants to work for God's will rather than his own. Doesn't that say he had unselfish motives? Isn't everyone supposed to be an instrument of God's will? The critics are ridiculous and the reporters went too far. Do they need to know EVERYTHING! Next thing you know some stalker will break into his home and roll around in the Obama's bed just to be close to him (I think someone did that to Brad Pitt)!

Yeah it was wrong to remove his prayer. But I just have to say, he makes really nice sounding prayers! Thats beautiful! “Help me guard against pride and despair” wow, thats deep.

As a totally non-observant Jew I was really surprised at how angry I was when I read this. It's hard to overstate the importance of the Western Wall in Jewish tradition — with over 2000 years of history and its direct connection with the destruction of the Holy Temple. I found myself thinking of Joseph Nye's remark to Senator McCarthy: “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”

True. But as someone also pointed out, his prayer is a 13th century Christian prayer many people know.

I don't really disagree with you, I guess I just believe he can take an action not totally driven by politics.

The prayer is on the front of the NY Post and a number of newspapers out here in the NYC-tri-state area. By the end of the week it may well be seen and read everywhere – along with the those superb photos of Obama in Berlin and that awesome gathering of people.

I am an atheist…and a white person. Yet reading this post and the subsequent commentary has brought up deep emotion as I think of so many of us “praying” in our unique ways for all the gods of our universe to protect this good, courageous, and decent man in his quest to be our President. Keep him safe! Please!
