he needs the clintons because although he would like to change things, at the end of the day not much will change. and this is not the fault of a single man. it is the fault of the two party system that wealthy special interests use to continue their hegemony over the rest of us. nothing will ever truly change in this country until the two party system is altered. i will more than likely vote for obama, but do i believe much will change? no i don't.

I actually don't think Hillary will be a problem. I think Hillary will be a good campaigner for Obama. I think she would have sat down months ago; she's not stupid. The problem then, as now, is BILL. BILL is the one running thangs, BILL is the one saltier than Hillary. IMO Bill was the one pressing Hillary to keep going.

I don't think Obama should kiss Bill's ass (although he probably will). Bill will respect him even LESS if he does. There's nothing that will satisfy Bill except Obama stepping down and letting Hillary be the nominee. That's not going to happen so there's nothing Obama can do to placate Bill. I don't think he should totally disregard Bill but I think he needs to work with Hillary and keep it positive and make Bill look like the pissy jackass he's turned out to be.

I'm not surprised by the awkwardness. Both candidates wanted to win. But Clinton expected to get the Democratic nomination. She has to be a bit salty about losing to someone who (in her opinion and many other voters) isn't completely qualified to be President.

I believe there are a lot of things Obama could learn from the Clintons (disregarding that much political experience is foolish). However, mending the rift and gaining support amongst voter populations Obama hasn't sufficiently penetrated is paramount if he hopes to defeat McClain.

Obama needs Clinton and her supporters to win in November. At the very least he needs them to act civil. If he wins in November, I’m sure that he and his people will make damn sure that he doesn’t need any of them in 2012.

Obama and FISA: My opinion: He’s got to get elected before he can work on FISA and he doesn’t want to be seen as soft on terrorism (and you know that’s how the Republicans and the media will play it).
I’m not happy about it, but IMHO it’s strategy; anyhoo, that’s my two cents.

Short term: Obama “needs” Hillary Clinton because of votes he will need in November, 2008.

I disagree. His winning the nomination proved effectively that he doesn't need Hillary; only her supporters. And many of them were turning towards him, save for the more rabid ones like Gerry the Klanswoman, when Hillary had to be forced from the stage.

Neither one had any real track record on anything; in fact, before they both decided to run, Obama and Clinton's Senate voting records were identical.

I say the shoe is on the other foot, and I'm not in Obama's camp when I say that, either.

For what? Now that she is out of the race, she can return to her position as a senator. She is not up for re-election until 2012, or Obama's entire first term.

No, he barely won the nomination despite them.

One of Obama's greatest shortcomings is his influence among other liberal politicians is lukewarm and virtually non-existent elsewhere.

As one example, his healthcare plan is markedly different from those of other powerful Democrats, and many aspects of his plan were long written off by other Democrats as unworkable.

Conversely, Clinton's current healthcare plan comes with approval from a great many first-tier CEOs, both Republican and Democrat, whom Clinton courted over the few years. From both the bureaucratic corridor as well as the business sector, many view her plan not only as workable but quickly implementable.

Clinton's brand of politics may have outlasted its shelf life, but she is still sitting on the top shelf with political and business influence that extends far beyond anything Obama has managed to amass.

To summarize, Obama needs Hillary now more than ever, and alienating her at this point has a high probability of poisoning his Presidency, both before and after the election.

She said what she had to say in order to make/play nice. She still “clings” to Mr. Obama in order to try to recoup some of her $20+million campaign debt, much of which she accumulated while trying to “cut him off at the knees”, denigrate him, and make people afraid of him simply because his is Black-NOT based on policies. How ironic that “the chickens have com back to roost”!
There is no trusting billary. Just take the “pictures” Mr. Obama and watch your back. And I plan to help as much as I can.
And “NO” I didn’t see the sexism as much as the RACISM! And it[RACISM} is even more pervasive! Though the sexism[and racism] that Mrs. Obama is enduring isn’t being adressed as much. Hmmmmm
