I think that Brokaw is a good choice through State of the Union 2009.

Craig: Thank you so much for posting that link to I got your back Barack! -- Just exactly excellent. Excellent. Thank you!!
The added link at the update -- to Phoenix Woman's diary called "It never was America to me" -- is also great and worth reading IMO. ----- Also, for anyone who hasn't read this already or wants to refresh their memory from 2005 ... Here is Barack Obama clearly and publicly stating some aspects of his actual political perspective ... which oddly enough in approach and tone looks suspiciously like his enacted political perspective, like, well ... now:
craig hickman, that link . . . it's a pretty ridiculous argument. "he's a constitutional law professor!" exactly. "he will do the right thing when president!" so said george bush.
it's ironic, really, that half of the folks who were vigorously pushing congress to stand up on fisa in february, are now willing to turn a blind eye just because barack obama has had a big gulp of republican kool-aid and has bought into the old, old rethug meme that dems are weak on terror. it's ridiculous. and he had it going on when he was confronting this bullshit, not selling out to it.
Compliments to Rikyrah on today's pic...i'm feeling more sanctified by just looking at it. Thank ya!

AMEN to rikyrah and truthseeker on the reaction of Diane Watson! I wonder what billary promised them [diane watson, Rep. stephanie tubbs jones, sheila jackson lee]. Betcha they sooo wanted to move into the "house" from the "field"!!!! But, as the records show, billary can't AFFORD any house based on their DEBT! For real now - "GET OVER IT!!"

Here's what it is: They see that Obama winning the nomination is the beginning of the end of the Old School Black Leadership strong hold on political power in the Black community. Not only is Obama now the leader of the Democratic Party, he's the leader of the New School Black Leadership.
Watson and her crew see that the show is about over for them.
Pour yourself some libation, whatever that may be, before you click on the link.
Peace.

You know I was joking. But seriously, Diane Watson must have lost her mind.

"I don't know about some of the conclusions the writer draws though. He seems to be saying that Barack needs the CBC's support to turn out AA's."
Yes, I questioned that too. I wonder if he really believes that, or if it's just spin.

@Renee.
Thank you for informing me about that. I have always been upset about the airy silence amongst black leadership and from the community when it comes to the crimes done against black GLBT's. I hear the rhetoric about religion often in regards to blacks staying away from issues regarding homosexuals. However that is not okay. I get angry each time I hear it. I could care less what their beliefs are, that should be put to the side. We are discussing inhuman hate crimes and brutality in regards to black GLBT's. I also find that there is too often silence from GLBT organizations in regards to this. I hope that that has changed and I hope that the black community speaks up on behalf of their GLBT brothers and sisters.

thanks for the article, it provides a clearer picture of what happened.
I don't know about some of the conclusions the writer draws though. He seems to be saying that Barack needs the CBC's support to turn out AA's. Blacks have turned out for Barack despite, and against the support of their Reps for Hillary. Barack doesn't have to go through them for votes.
Also, he concludes that Watson's protest is a sure sign that there's still deep division between O and Hillary voters. C'mon, just because one person says we need to heal?? He just repeats the mythology/scam without citing polls that say otherwise.

A brief post I wrote early today about the double-standards in covering Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama.
I'm sure there's a lot of that attitude involved, truthseeker.
Another article on that meeting, this one from The Hill: http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/heal-now-candidate-tells-cbc-2008-06-19.html

@ Rikyrah,
I saw that CBC article yesterday. I don't get the emotional connection to HRC. I can only imagine what she must have promised them in return for their support. But, if they are really that self-serving, wouldn't they quickly transfer their support to the winner? It's got to be something deeper.
Fundamentally, it's a lack of respect for themselves, and their own people. However, within their hierarchy, they are the kings and queens. Here comes a young black man who violates their sense of position. They've carved out mini-dictatorships within the political hierarchy which Obama and voters just toppled.
They dismissed their own constituents, dismissed Obama...even now, not giving him the due respect(as in Watson's response) of the nominee. It's as if the subtext is: "Who does he think he is? He's just black like us, we're not going to bow down to just a negro."
The thing that really angered me this week is the silence that has happened from black leaders on the beating of Duanna Johnson by a white police officer. Why is her assault not worth talking about? Just because she is a transexual and a sex trade worker does not mean that she is not a person of value. http://www.womanist-musings.com/2008/06/cops-beat-transexual-woman.html The beating was even caught on tape and still no word of outrage. What does that say about what bodies matter to us as a community.

There's an article in the WaPo about how white extremist groups have seen an increase in their numbers during the Obama ascendancy. Hate Group's Newest Target

BTW ms. martin,
you and I both know that if it had been anyone other than Hillpatine, that his reactions would be different. But, it IS her, and he has to deal with her, and her self-important backers delicately.

Apparantly, these members don't understand that Obama has a general election campaign to run and he must move to the middle and not focus on the few dissatisfied women who support McCain. According to Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., Obama then said, "However, I need to make a decision in the next few months as to how I manage that since I'm running against John McCain, which takes a lot of time. If women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it."
Rep. Diane Watson, D-Calif., a longtime Clinton supporter, did not like those last three words -- "Get over it." She found them dismissive, off-putting.
"Don't use that terminology," Watson told Obama.
Clarke did not react the same way.
Watson must be looking for a primary challenge
IF THAT's the worse of what Obama told those Negroes, then they should feel themselves lucky.
Watson does indeed need to 'get over it'.

Obama said that Hillary Clinton is worthy of your respect. Now I know that's politics.
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Now, come on now.
You're being hilarious now, Ms. Martin.
He's got to be generous to her. He's always shown her more respect than she's shown him.
