JUst got in from a screening of Trouble The Water, a documentary following New Orleans couple's (Kimberly and Scott Rivers) life surviving the hurricane.

Where When The Levees Broke is masterful in capturing all the elements of the crisis and disaster of Katrina and the levees breach, Trouble The Water offers an intimate counterpoint.

I would love for every JJP reader to see it for discussion and feedback...there's no release date yet but please remember the film title!

d,
Please tell when was the last conversation that you had with Senator Obama. I need to know when you learned how intelligently he can speak about defense spending??

He has some of the top advisors on the planet including an unofficial advisor in Colin Powell.
So even though he serves on the Senate Committees for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works, Veterans' Affairs Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and is the Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European you know more than him because you were a soldier or because you are conservative. Makes since to me.
Obama 2008!

Karmi,

I'm with you...to a point.

One could argue-and probably successfully-that military drawdowns under Clinton, B. contributed to some of the problems the military's facing today.

We cannot fight the wars of today-and those to come-with the military of the last century. Of course there's some fluff in defense spending, but to suggest cutting some of most advanced programs-especially when you may or may not know enough about them to speak intelligently-is not smart.

You probably should've stopped there...

rikyrah - truth be told I don't think MLK or Malcolm belonged to either party, though I do agree Malcolm's message that blacks should rely on their own economic capacity for self-advancement, not on government aligns with the Republican party. Malcolm thought it was essential for blanks to have the freedom to pursue their dreams and talents however they chose and believed it was only available through economic independence, not dependence. He also criticized the irrational tossing of the black vote to the Democratic Party without any benefits in return.

I linked the article because I love and respect the varied thought on this site. And I think as a political site reading different perspectives of history and discussing them is interesting and, for me educational.

ronnie b,

Hillary lost support among the far-left when she tried to move to the center on foreign policy. Obama moved to her left to curry favor with them and they have claimed credit for his win. Anti-semitism is rampant on the far-left and Obama has been forced to walk back from his strong support of Israel regarding an 'undivided' Jerusalem.

While some may have tried to blur the line between the positions of Clinton and Obama, Hillary is viewed by many in the party to be more moderate, and she had their support.

Why isn't McCain a better fit for Dems who can identify more with the DLC wing of the party that has been all but vanquished by the kos/moveon/code pink wing of the party?

Obama got the support of indep. and undecided voters because he talked to them, gave them the chance to hear what he has to offer. That's hardly favoritism.

I would strongly disagree that Obama has received more favorable coverage. And again, these polls target certain people. No one has asked me for my opinion about anything. Yes the corporate media has too much influence. I was just reminded that Bill O'Reilly was claiming that not supporting the invasion of Iraq as being anti-American and Rupert Murdoch predicted the price of oil would drop to $20 per barrel. Well we know what happened there.

Do moderates have a home in the Democrat party? Will fiscally conservative, more hawkish, pro-Israel Dems think Obama represents their positions. Obama is not a blue dog Dem. Nor is he a Dem in the mold of Harry S. Truman.

For all the talk of geographic, racial and gender gaps among Dems, is there no ideological divide?

And “Karmicommunist” is just trying to use my people as a political football to stir up trouble and division. Not interested in truth, only interested in the spin.

You are using my people and you are not our friend. You are using us. Shame on you. For shame that you would play this game.

Karmicommunist:

At the bottom of the site it says:

"Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign."

You spreading this information on a blog, instead of clicking on the "Report Objectionable Content" link puts you in the very same camp as the person who posted it IMO.

I am a Jew and I recognize that you are just trying to stir up trouble.

In my view you're just as bad as the poster in your actions on this.
