We-the federal government-got Katrina wrong. I didn’t always hold to that position, until I got to see NO for myself.
What has me in defense mode here is the fact that a terrible situation is being used as an attack tool against one person-when EVERYBODY blew it in one form or another. NOBODY went to LA/MS in the immediate aftermath of the storm, because they couldn’t.

I think that using the Katrina tragedy in this way plays more to the voters in that area than it does to voters on a national level. That doesn’t make me insensitive; I just see it for the pandering that it is

Let’s be clear. I was refuting the claim that McCain was ‘flat out’ lying about his support for an investigation of Katrina. I felt the post was unfair and tried to clarify the level of McCain’s support and involvement on the issue.

If you think McCain’s concern is insincere or inadequate, fine. If you think he should have supported not only the bipartisan DHS investigation, but the Dem sponsored ones as well, fine.

If you think he was being dishonest in his statement posted here, fine.

The lack of organization and ability of the federal government to assist America’s people during a natural catastrophy was abominable.

Your current government failed its people and watched (and ate cake) while thousands were dying and many more didn’t have the benefit of a drink of water.

Do you honestly believe that people have forgotten the images of dead, blotted bodies floating before their eyes while Bush flew over.

Do you really believe they have forgotten the stench of death, the helplessness and hopelessness? The disappointment?

Who would have thought that in a country as great as America, its people would be stranded and their government wouldn’t respond for 5 days.

Somehow, here, we got off the original topic of this post, which was McCain’s voting record regarding the Katrina commissions.

I haven’t tried to defend that, because…well, there’s no defense. Obviously, he did vote against them.

The first commenter set up a picture that, IMO, didn’t make a whole lot of sense when you look at the events of the day. From there, I thought the discussion was over and done with (or at least until my BFF Nquest showed up).

I’m not going to attempt to defend McCain’s calling his wife a cunt; that’s indefensible.

McCain’s never said he wanted a hundred years of war. That’s a fact.
