Which is probably about the only rationale for going to Iraq that I think most people would agree on.

IMO, the reason we didn’t go into Rwanda in 1994 has something to do with the results of our actions in Somalia the year before. We “cut and ran” then (even earned the “paper tiger” label from bin Laden), and weren’t too willing to go back. Just my thoughts.

I said I didn’t think she was. That’s just my opinion. There’s people on the right who say flat out that she is unpatriotic, and there’s some who say flat out that she isn’t.

If I wanted to call her unpatriotic, I would. However, I can’t support that from this statement. So I take it as what I see it as: a comment that was not smart.

If we are in the business of “liberating” people, why are we not down in Sudan and Kenya and Zimbabwe etc. “liberating” those people? Isn’t Sudan a hot spot for terrorism?

Why didn’t we help “liberate” Rwanda?

The only reason we went down to Iraq is because “dey tried to kill mah daddy — GW Bush.”

He gone, he dead — so why the F are we still in Iraq?

OK … but is Michelle Obama unpatriotic?

One thing that kills me is how people always throw up the fact that the troops “don’t have the…equipment they need” for a mission that 99% of you don’t want them doing in the first place. Doesn’t that seem a little backwards?

I don’t think that all black people are unpatriotic. I know that patriotism does not require blind devotion as well. Having said that, I think some of us are too willing to put our individual problems before the good of the country…or put differently, we view the world through a narrow prism, and fail to see the “larger picture.”

The problem I have with this is there is nothing that Michelle Obama said that was “unpatriotic.” A real problem I’m having is people have the attitude that if you criticize the country in any way (especially if you are non-white), you are “unpatriotic.” If you question the country in any way, you are “unpatriotic.” We saw it after 9/11, we saw it when this idiotic war started. Sounds more like the Soviet Union than the United States.

Iraq is an “unwinnable” war. There will never be any “victory” in Iraq because the goalposts for “victory” keep changing. Why are we there? Because of WMDs? There were none at the time we charged in, so why are we still there? To rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein? He’s dead and gone, so why are we still there? To fight the terrorists? But they weren’t in Iraq to begin with, they were and are in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Why are we still in Iraq? Nobody can give a clear answer as to why we are still there, which is why Iraq is an unwinnable war. McShame just said we “might” win in 2013. That means we’ll have been in Iraq for 10 years. I guess there’s still 90 years to go, huh?

But back to Michelle and her so-called lack of patriotism. I see nothing in the past few years to be proud of:

Letting thousands of American citizens die in floods, heat, etc. while you and your buddies sit around eating birthday cake?

25% of American adults are functionally illiterate?

The deficit has been ran up to the extreme?

Our hardworking American troops do not have the health care or equipment they need? Or trying to shut down their benefits when they come home?

The dollar is falling faster than a weave on a hot summer day?

Well if she’s proud of her country, what does it matter how or when she developed that pride? And why no benefit of the doubt in the first place?

That’s why I say this is just an opportunity for some people to perpetuate the stereotype that Black people are less patriotic than others.

I’m disgusted with some of the Black folk who are helping to perpetuate this stereotype.

If a doctor involved with her clinic had not sued her for employment discrimination, we might know nothing about her illegal criminal activity that your average American would have certainly served time in prision for.
