I'm really glad to see this finally getting some MSM coverage -- and continue to be disappointed by the total lack of coverage of this in the "mainstream" blogosphere.

Agreed that there are some potential solutions here, especially since it seems like some credential sharing is possible. The task force idea is a very good one; and it is worth thinking about whether somebody could be convinced to purchase a couple of additional credentials. Hey, maybe the DNCC will kick in?

I'm new here and I don't know where you folks re located but you might try Jeff W. over at Prairie State Blue if you're in Illinois. I think they got credentials and might be able to help you with the process. If I had a vote I'd send you guys.

I'm looking forward to reading the perspectives of those from the black blogosphere in Denver, and I hope that it will be represented in Minneapolis, as well. That should be an interesting experience.

I am glad this is being covered today because I was wondering what the black blogsphere planned on doing about this. And after all that talk of a standard for credentials for qualified blogs it turns out you can buy one so that theory just goes out the window.

I find I get more information from blogs than the "news." Most of the "news" is just entertainment fluff, what Brad & Angelina did, the latest Lindsay or Britney saga, exclusive cell phone video of kids dirty dancing in a high school in California, what happened on American Idol and proganda about politics, all read by pretty faces reciting off a teleprompter. No thought, no real analysis.

I recently had friends in town from the U.K., and their impression of our media/consumer dynamic is pretty much what christopher chambers suggests.

Our MSM is lazy, sloppy, and plays to the lowest common denominator. And our viewers/voters have become addicted to junk-food news. Nothing neutricious, and all processed sugars and artificial flavors.

There's an element of academic interest in this for me. Think of it: American journalism and a one venerated political correspondent corps (be they liberal or conservative) has become so degenerated and degenerate that a critical is the denial of access by BLOGGERS. No MSM snobbery intended or implied. But that we now have to depend on bloggers is both a stunning confirmation of a new media reality...and a stunning condemnation of our professional news outlets. Indeed, maybe it says something sort of well, bad about the average American's taste for "news?" I'm not hating. I'm just saying...
