Please tell me this is a typo, because this sounds very disturbing to me:

"Mildred Jeter was 11 when she and 17-year-old Richard began courting, according to Phyl Newbeck, a Vermont author who detailed the case in the 2004 book, ''Virginia Hasn't Always Been for Lovers.''"

Yes, they were brave and strong-willed. I watched the biopic about them years ago, starring Lela Rochon, but isn’t it kind of porblematic that she started “courting” him at age 11?

The Lovings were brave for there time. Very inspiring. May they both rest in peace together in eternity. I read the story to my fiancee and he was inspired to watch their story.

Amazing. I can say that I encourage interracial marriages but most definitely everyone should have the right to marry the one they love regardless of race. 1967….damn, this law was still on the books then. ..wow. Thanks for the information!
