It troubles me to hear that people say it would matter to most of the people they know, though.

How racist is this blasted country?

You know, I’m not sure if I ever sat down and ate with my one close black friend at college. I can sure say that if I saw him in the Cafeteria I’d be sitting by him! (but I don’t think I ever really did. humph).

Then again, I played RPGs with him every single week (pencil and paper). And if that’s not close enough to call someone a friend, I don’t wanna hafta kiss ‘em! ;-)

Of course, he was one of my ‘not-black’ black friends (that is to say, someone who I wouldn’t have said blackness was an essential part of him).

I think it was until after college that I actually made culturally black friends.

Ya live and learn, folks. And college is a place where people DO separate out, find the people they LIKE.

Of course, most bigots are also sexist. If they have a choice between a white woman or white man, they’ll probably choose the man. Ah, the tangled web the Clinton’s weave!

As one of your most loyal readers (and caucasian to boot) I want to respond to assumptions about knuckle heads that are talking through their “friends”. It may have to do with race (or the culture of privilege),but it also has to do with being unaware of oneself and buying into the system without thinking.

Obama wants to wake us up. He isn’t offering easy answers because no easy solutions will do to heal the damage that has been done by Washington to our country since corruption became the norm.

Every day that goes by with the media playing up HC and the bs they dish makes me respect Senator Obama more and feel sadness for the people that can’t see the game that is being played.

I for one am glad to find so many more people who like John Kerry are ready to move on and get to the issues at hand.

And on the heels of that rape case, while the whites are eager to make friends, those young brothas and sistas are playing “Wait and See” before they hand out the “friendship” label.

Our job, in my opinion, is to “celebrate” those white (and other) people who ARE voting for, or considering voting for Barack. And all of us should be touting just how informed, forward-thinking, and problem-solving we all are.

In my opinion, we speak nothing (publically) of the bigot and racist types. Let them have only each other. Let them see that real and decent people have no time or care for them or their petty prejudices.

Ostracize them without saying a word.

But perhaps the worst thing we can do with bigots and racists, would be to publically challenge their bigotry and racism.
