Have the Cake of Minority Victimhood???

So the “victimhood” racket is a scam. And you know it’s a scam. Finally, an admission.

Imagine that!? To achieve Victimhood is to achieve an enviable goal, according to you. Wow. This is front-page material. The cat is out of the bag.

Let me set you straight here. Jews have been victimized from time to time. One-third of all the Jews in the world were murdered by Nazi Germany. Nothing as severe as that has happened to blacks, no matter how high you wave that banner of Victimhood.

Jews have experienced discrimination. One form of discrimination occurred when Jews were blocked from attending the best American colleges and universities. Why? Because too many Jews were proving to be such outstanding students that Harvard, Yale and the rest of the Ivy League would have freshman classes of nothing but Jews if academic success in high school were the only criteria for admissions.

Thus quotas were set to REDUCE the number of Jews accepted by top schools.

These days asians are the new Jews. Quotas are back. They cut back the number of asians admitted to the best schools. Meanwhile, some people with less impressive credentials are admitted to increase the “diversity” of the student body.

Meanwhile, maybe it’s news to you but there is no white skin priviledge extended to Jews. Frankly, the only place I am sure white skin priviledge exists is in the New York City Fire Department, where more than 95% of firemen are white.

As a resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY, I see people of all races and nationalities make their ways in the world, facing very little discrimination based on anything more than their own abilities and personal histories.

If they’ve got the goods, they’re in good shape.

Anyway, the chief point here is that though Jews have faced discrimination and been victimized at times, they always overcome the problems. Rarely is it necessary for Jews to seek special consideration from governments. More often governments allow the abuse. There are still co-op buildings in NY City where Jews cannot buy an apartment. Money does not matter.

You will not find Jews presenting themselves as victims. But there is no chance history will be forgotten. Remembering that bad things can happen is not the same as facing the world as victims.

frankly, to my mind given whose traditions are more ‘pure’ the true jews are out of ethiopia; but the diaspora is large, and has room for many no matter what one’s race or ethnicity — and no matter Israeli prejudice.

to my mind, (white) jews cannot have the cake of minority victimhood then eat the cake of white skin privilege all at once. or at least, they shouldn’t. that’s nasty. so why encourage it?

i’m not a jew, though. do jews feel that way?

Virtually all Jews are white. Hence, no need for the redundancy. Second, the NAACP was founded by, among others, the Jewish founders of Sears. The people responsible for the founding of the NAACP were white and black. The money came from whites.

when you read it like that, it can sound like ‘african american community’ and ‘we’ are two different things……. kind of like in ‘eyes on the prize’ where the Civil Rights Movement movers and shakers kept their distance from (and their disdain of) the ‘street people’ even as those movers and shakers sought to help those same ‘street people’. the snippet posted also ignores certain intersections of history (white Jews with the NAACP, who may or may not have been the primary backers; and on the opposite end, white supremacists who were willing to finance Garvey’s ‘Back to Africa’ movement, and his willingness to accept that help).

and yes, there’s always been a disconnect of this sort: “But are they missing anyone who might have had a hand in getting that event together?” It’s lazy journalism, and top down crediting. I’ve also heard those complaints for a while about Al Sharpton, and it’s one of the reasons (among many) why I’ve never supported him. He’s a glory hog. It’s one of the things which makes Obama a change from old style business as usual; people praise Obama for giving credit where credit is due.
