It’s basically reaching out to as many people as possible, which is expensive and very, very time-consuming vs. turning out the base in large numbers and trying to drive down the favorables of your opponent, which can lead to fervent support but less potential for growth.

The way that both campaigns are managed are striking.
Mark Penn, her strategist, is using micro-studies and image/message shaping to targeted groups.
That's why she's tellin' so many lies (NAFTA, Bosnia, etc).

Obama is running with Dean's strategy; macro-population dynamics. In other words, building coalitions from the ground up and and getting a general mesasge out to everybody. And not playing Electoral College games.

We'll see who wins in November.

wait a second. he’s admitted that there are no substantial differences between the two of them policy wise. nothing but differences around the edges.

but his difference approach to democracy is important? if the means (in obama’s case that means being bottom up democracy) doesn’t lead to different ends (policy outcomes), then why are the means important? if bottom up democracy produces a health care proposal that is only slightly different from clinton’s even though clinton is getting the HMO loot, then what are we to think?

Forgive me; I'm gonna commit a little heresy, here.

I think Clinton would be responsive to bottom-up Democracy. I just don't think that she possesses the leadership or politically moral qualities that would compel someone to see bottom-up democracy as a necessity in changing politics-as-usual.

And at the end of the day, Clinton epitomizes politics-as-usual.

the whole obama, condensed into less than 6 minutes. the good rethoric, the direct response to a question, the respect for the other, yet the clear vision of what is not acceptable, a simple and nevertheless compelling alternative to the all too well know way of making politics, the accountability and the honesty make a thourough case for change.

that's obama you can belive in.
