It’s a threat to their control and power.

For African Americans, Hillary Clinton and John McCain are not options. When there were more people in the race. John Edwards was popular. My mother was in support of him until he dropped out as were others.

Now for the dumbies...who make blanket statements.

If Barack Obama was not a exceptional politician...he wouldn’t have gained traction regardless of race.

The words and themes HOPE and CHANGE and FAITH etc... resonate with African Americans for reasons that everyone should know.

My old neighbor as a child used to tell me how much she adored Kennedy because of his inspiring message and the feeling that he could change this country for the better etc...JFK held a certain affinity with blacks then. She had photographs, old buttons, campaign material that she saved and the whole nine. Its the same thing.
John F. Kennedy was a white man.

Obama appeals to black voters for many reasons, I am voting for him because his platform of transparency and accountability. That is what first attracted me. Then I read about his plans for the cities. He had a good record on issues that I care about. However of course I don’t agree with everything he has voted for. I like his healthcare plan and as an independent I like his bipartisan politics. The fact that he wants to restore our reputation around the world and it even goes further because its topped with an inspirational message of unity, inclusion, hope and change. They are not just words, they are calls to action and ideologies that needed to be a part of our country's future. Now if he was a white man, not only would he be the nominee, he would be the inevitable nominee and I would support him for all of those reasons above with enthusiasm!!!!
Let me tell you this, amongst all of my reasons for my passionate support for Obama, my ability to identify with him and his family as African Americans like me is one of them. I admire Michelle Obama. However I don’t weight it any heavier than the above issues, if he didn’t represent and stand for everything above (- his race), I would not support him regardless. For me or anyone to support someone solely on race or GENDER would be stupid...just stupid. I could name you a lot of black people and women in politics that I would not support. Do you think if Clarence Thomas was running for president, black people would vote for him?? His ideologies are different, I don’t agree with what he stands for so of course not.

When people talk about blacks being monolithic, we are not monolithic, we are boxed in. The Republican party which I have tried out, is not a choice for the majority of African Americans. Democrats are a better choice but not by NO MEANS ideal however we benefit from WHATS GOOD of their policies. There are two large parties, take your pick. Many blacks chose the lesser evil really. I beleive that blacks should be independents however if we all move their then once again we a monolithic so mabye I shouldnt spread the good idea.

P.S.
Keith Olberman killed it tonite...he handed Clinton her ass on his special comment section!! He looked really emotional and angry...wow.

I am happy that I did not indicate my race when I registered to vote because as usual it’s used against you.

When I hear black people side with whites in their banter about blacks voting for blacks I get upset…you know why…for the white man!! blacks uniting and coming together in any type of way is a threat (Birth of A Nation-esque)…period under any circumstances. I've watched Pat Buchanan (which I should know better) spew out his racist nonsensical diatribe. So like I said I was feeling a little better until just now. Pat Buchanan again. I am literally in tears right now. He just told the black commentator Kelly to "shut up" and you can only imagine what he wanted to add. I am all for differing opinions but he crosses the line so MANY times, and he goes unchecked. Even Rachel Maddow called him out. This just happened on Dan Abrahams show. I am plan to write MSNBC and their advertisers. Pat Buchanan cannot continue to spew this kind of b.s he does.

Pat Buchanan must be checked. Well, I am highly confident that, if he had two white parents, he would not have been the first black head of the Harvard Law Review, although given his obvious talent and brains he might well have been yet another quickly-forgotten-if-ever-known white head (Quick, who is current head of the Harvard Review? No, I don't care either...).

And I am quite sure he would not have been offered the role of keynote speaker at the Democratic convention in 2004:

Stephanie Cutter, communications director for the Kerry campaign, explained why the campaign chose Mr. Obama, a former community organizer and Harvard-educated civil rights lawyer: ''We believe he represents the future of the party.''

Mr. Kerry's supporters say they hope the choice will also sway those who have accused Mr. Kerry of failing to include enough minorities in top campaign roles and, more broadly, of failing to excite black voters.

''This represents the Democrats reaching out,'' the Rev. Just for example, John Edwards made ending poverty the centerpiece of his campaign, and there are proportionately more blacks than whites - did anyone talk about Edwards' racial transcendence?

Why am I so sure that if Obama were not black his place in history would be different? I am very critical of both Clinton and Obama camps, especially as the campaigns are coming closer to an end.

I also see and feel the energy of America becoming more HYPER-SENSITVE to every little thing that is said that in my opinion both sides are distoting and blowning out of perspective simple conversations and making them daggers for racial and gender bias.

As you stated, when you walk into a room, there is that chance that you will be viewed through cultural, gender and racial eyes and often have your words over-analyzed in order to support whatever prejudice they walked into the room with.

I will say this much about Ferraro, only a SMALL part of what she said was true BUT in the contexts in which she used it was ALL WRONG and OUT OF TIME.

Obama has as estimated 87% of the National Black Vote. No other Black or White Candidate in America running for President ever got those numbers from Black folk and it should be aknowledged. For Blacks to be OVER-SENSITIVE when Non-Blacks mention it does the whole process a great dis-service. In Ferraro's case, MEN and WOMEN voted AGAINST HER bid for Vice-President in 1984 so to associate her experience with Obama's is WRONG AND MISPLACED.

If she is or isn't a racist, if she meant to say something positive or not in regards to Obama, it wasn't what she said ... it was more the SOUND BITE that SHOUT AROUND THE WORLD because no one really know, heard or read the whole statement which was a Paragraph long.

Right on point, I very much agree with your point of view. But what happens when blacks overtake their enlightened white helpers? All hell breaks loose and the mask of progress drops to reveal the stricken faces of the white avant-garde .

Geraldine Ferraro's remarks confirm that beneath left-wing paternalism lurks considerable racism. "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," she said to the Daily Breeze. "He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

Since liberalism is not based upon natural justice but willfulness, it never fails to devour its supposed beneficiaries. Ferraro's condescension captures the tone of paternalistic liberalism perfectly. Its "victims" should know their place and plot their ascent according to the progressive charts set up by the white liberal establishment.

We'll let you know, Barack, when it is your time to win -- that's been the tacit theme of the Clinton campaign all along. Such is the generosity of Lady Bountiful she'll even let him serve as her apprentice in the VP chair for eight years.

But chaos has erupted and the plantation progressives don't know what to do, except to blurt out pent-up racial resentments. Then, the victims, whom they spent the last few decades training in hair-trigger racial sensitivity, turn on them in righteous fury, detecting nuances of racism in everything from Andrew Cuomo's description of Obama's press conferences as "shuck and jive" events to Bill Clinton's belittling Jesse Jackson comparison to Ferraro's sniffing at his "luck."

IF, AS FERRARO SAYS, the country is "caught up in the concept" of embracing an unqualified black president, that's because she and her friends propagandized Americans in that notion a long time ago. Ferraro's whining is the grousing of a propagandist whose student has surpassed her.

Obama can throw in the faces of left-wing paternalists all their most cherished claims, starting with the idea, advanced by Sandra Day O'Connor among others, that in America's suffering sweepstakes black males enjoy pride of place over white women. Who should get into Michigan's law school first? A black male? Or a white woman? Well, for the next 25 years or so, spitballed O'Connor, let's give it to the black applicant. Isn't it a little late for Ferraro to be complaining about reverse discrimination?

Hillary's definition of "experience" presupposes a tenet of conservatism, that excellence and merit trump all other considerations. But that's not the definition of experience she normally endorses and for the eight years her husband was in office she treated it as de facto evidence of racism. Equality by any which way is more important than experience, their policies assumed. Where has the Clintons' commitment to a White House that "looked like America" gone?

Under left-wing paternalism until now, race alone conferred important experience on a person -- an argument that Obama has not made but could make to silence his progressive overlords. Who cares, he could say to them, about thin resumes in the age of affirmative action and egalitarianism?

If people are voting for Obama because it allows them to place a halo of goodness over their heads, that too derives from the propaganda of paternalistic liberalism. Ferraro's own entrance into national politics soared then sunk upon such stupidity. Walter Mondale was testing the enlightenment of the American people by placing her on his ticket and in those cold and reactionary Reagan years the people failed his test.

The radical chic of which Tom Wolfe wrote has caught up with the paternalistic left, producing new fodder for farce. As they held Park Avenue parties for black activists and bankrolled their candidacies to safe and obscure posts, they could appear progressive while remaining safely in control. But the role of following blacks rather than leading them is a little too discombobulating for them to handle. And so they are reduced to grumbling like racists at the "luck" of a black candidate winning yet another state in the South.

Left-wing paternalists regard themselves as architects of racial progress, guarding and guiding blacks along the path of success — a role in which they assume to stand forever at the head of the march.
