What we need to prepare for is the possibility of a significant defeat in Pennsylvania. Barack might do well in Philly, and he might make a dent in Pittsburgh. But that’s about the extent of it. The media has given itself the excuse to pander to those so-called “working-class whites” in middle Pennsylvania with whom Barack has “a problem”, they say.

They’re saying that he’s got a “real problem” with these white folks as if he’s done something to cause the problem. Now, the WGM won’t come right out and say that these “working-class whites” don’t like Obama because they don’t particularly care for Black politicians, but they do regularly stop just short of saying so. And in my view, the WGM’s failure to give such bigotry the light-of-day exposure it deserves, only provides justification and safe cover for it.

That said, I agree with justice58; start banging the phones and e-mail addresses of corporate sponsors of the media outlets who continue to fan the flames of white bigotry.

Yes, but it’s a dilemma that is wholly alien to the overwhelming majority of American voters. Liberals love to play these games with social conservatives, asking Republican candidates whether they think the Book of Genesis is the literal truth, or they believe in the Rapture. But there’s wiggle room in stuff that hasn’t yet happened or was all a long time ago. When you’re questioned about whether the US government cooked up Aids in a laboratory in the late Seventies to kill black people, you’re being asked whether you accept the objective reality of the world we live in. That’s not a good thing to make a “dilemma” of.

The Reverend Wright is, to modify Cole Porter, not “dilemma” but “da limit” – a point beyond which Americans will willingly accompany Obama. So the simple fact that an absurd proposition for most people is a painful dilemma for the Senator has the effect of distancing him from those whose votes he needs.

As for the person who wrote about judgment and experience. That is the central issue for all three candidates, not just Obama. Rodhman Nixon and McCain have also shown their judgment to be questionable, as well as the experience each claims to have. If we weren’t so focused on the Democratic fight, McCain would be skewered for his ignorance about which religious sects in Iraq and Iran are which. Absolutely skewered.

This fight will go to the judges and it will be a ’split decision.’
