We would have to occupy Iraq with levels even higher than we have today and for 20 or more years - and then there's no guarantee we'd succeed.

We never should have gone into Iraq precisely because we could not win there. Don't get me wrong, our troops have done everything we've asked of them - and more. But the truth is that the internal situation in Iraq and the geopolitical situation in the region can not be resolved by the U.S. militarily. There has to be a political resolution - which will not happen soon in Iraq, and even if they did come together, a united Iraq poses danger for other nations in the region.

Going into Iraq, based on lies and distortions, was, from the very beginning, a mistake. It was a lose-lose situation from the start. I just don't see any way we can get out of there with honor and "mission accomplished".

Well, first off, he was a Connie sailor, so he can’t be all that bad LOL (I served on the Connie for two years in the early 80′s).

I understand where he’s coming from but I just don’t see how we will ever be able to “finish the job” and return with honor.
