And, where did it end up?

IMO that is just ugly, what you heard/saw at the HQ.

(I remember reading that Sen. Obama said if anyone was saying racist or sexist or etc things whether staff or volunteer on his campaign, he wouldn't tolerate it ... I have a sinking feeling about this for some reason though.)

From Nquest (I think?) earlier: Well, now it's time for White America to get one of them TEACHING MOMENTS.

Agreed but doesn't seem to be happening from the campaign at least. I keep telling myself that someone running for president of the US can't be expected to say stuff that freaks white people out and keep reminding myself how little it takes of the truth to upset most white people, but -- this story from the HQ is digging into me now.

And -- I read in one of those Chicago interviews where Senator Obama responded to a question about Geraldine Ferraro by saying he didn't think her comment was racist but did think it was wrong, then went on to talk somewhat about how race had an effect in his trajectory and how Ferraro could have actually made an interesting point about race in that context -- but she didn't.

I had a discussion about that move last night. We were saying how there seems to us to be this frustrating dynamic around describing things that are racist as what they are (racist) because white denial or the dominant cultural system in this country or whatever the forces seem to have made that word/concept into an entrance to a Hall of Mirrors in which positions are reversed and it often ends up way far away from whatever the initial subject was because those who did the racist thing to begin with have gotten defensive and turned the tables to act like they are victims of an attack and .... anyway.

Like for example, the last couple of days when I did Google blog search for Obama and racism, it was pretty much all about his pastor, whose truth telling was named as racist.

So I have been thinking about Sen Obama's refusal to play the Hall of Mirrors game re: Ferraro, thinking maybe shifting it into "the question is is it accurate/correct" was perhaps not evasion but maybe possibly a brilliant thing to do.

But hearing this story from the HQ, I'm thinking I should not be too hasty to believe things like that as there is an overall pattern here and I don't yet really get what it is but it is giving me a sinking feeling. I hope I am wrong.

@Rhonda, ditto what Ms. Martin asked, how did you school them what did you tell them? I stayed out of it to just hear their reaction. Pretty much they said that black people are still holding on to issues from the past and they need to get past that and get over it. Obama will be the one to tell them to do that. Oh really...

I held my tongue. More said it and then went further to actually assert that black parents who were around back in the day teach their children that it exists today. They claim that that is the "dangerous" cycle. One woman claimed that, "she was sorry for those people and that Obama will be a good rolemodel to teach them better".

I had to ask them, what is "it"? Some said "opression", some said "racism". One actually had the gaul to say that black people have been "paranoid" for a while. A guy who is an organizer in Philly actually said that "like Barack said it's something that has to be dealt with within the black community, it really has nothing to do with anyone else".
I really had to go in and school them. They were shocked. One actually apologized. This is exactly what we were just saying here. Are you kinding me? Obama waxed New Age Negro like there is something wrong, unproductive or out-molded with such "unresolved feelings."

Me, I have a problem with those terms. Wright & Trinity are firmly resolved. The lack of resolution and the people who "need to get passed" their questionable "feelings" aren't Black. All the circumstances and situations you named that have real "quiet riot", "empathy deficit" (where are you Barack?) impact on people's lives can't be laid at the feet of Black, their "feelings", let alone their/our actions.

I more or less support Obama but I don't do this generational divide bs. I understand Obama is trying to walk that fine line. He just better make sure he don't try to step to hard, bold and big-chested on this Black side of the line.

I mentioned elsewhere how Obama has this thing where he has what's been called "Cosby Moments" when it comes to preachin' "tough love" to Black folk. Well, now it's time for White America to get one of them TEACHING MOMENTS.

I mean, all I see is the "same old (racial) politics." From the Farrakhan Test (and that ain't the only time they tried to 'Jesse' him... that's some 20 year old+ 'same old' politics); to the thing when he wrongly concede that Michelle Obama misspoke or whatever for voicing her "pride" in people not just griping about the political process but getting involved in it (he knew that's what she said); to now this thing about his pastor that he knew was going to happen because of the constant drip.drip.drip...

The brother has the intellect, I trust that he will see the wisdom in not postponing a national conversation on race and stop acting like whatever issues Black folks have are equally problematic as those as White folks.

I'm seeing this is a slave-breaking, slave-making moment. Either Obama takes these lashes and say, "my name is not Jesse..." or he continues to concede and says, "Toby" under the illusion that this particular principle is something to concede in hopes of it not damaging his level of White support.

IMO, after all those Wiki's that's been racked up and after how long people have been digging, trying to make something out of this thing with his church and his (former) pastor... Well, all I got is a little Alice Walker for him/them:

"No person is your friend who demands your silence..."

Simply put, while I don't agree with Obama's "terms" -- framing Rev. Wright's remarks as "anger" and "frustration" -- it's time for White America to stop "demanding" Black people "shut up (and) sing" and "pledge allegiance" to persistent racial inequality. It's time to stop trying to soften our tone to the point of not pointing out what is still going on in this very presidential campaign.

It's time for White America to grow up and since White anger and resentment is normalized, it's time to stop acting like Black "anger" isn't when it is way more justified.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. It's time for White America to grow up.

“Unresolved feelings”

I guess I get your meaning right but Obama should be taken to task — mind you, not in such an opportunitistic manner or with such questioned/questionable timing. Obama waxed New Age Negro like there is something wrong, unproductive or out-molded with such “unresolved feelings.”

Me, I have a problem with those terms. Wright & Trinity are firmly resolved. The lack of resolution and the people who “need to get passed” their questionable “feelings” aren’t Black. All the circumstances and situations you named that have real “quiet riot”, “empathy deficit” (where are you Barack?) impact on people’s lives can’t be laid at the feet of Black, their “feelings”, let alone their/our actions.

I more or less support Obama but I don’t do this generational divide bs. I understand Obama is trying to walk that fine line. He just better make sure he don’t try to step to hard, bold and big-chested on this Black side of the line.

I mentioned elsewhere how Obama has this thing where he has what’s been called “Cosby Moments” when it comes to preachin’ “tough love” to Black folk. Well, now it’s time for White America to get one of them TEACHING MOMENTS.

I mean, all I see is the “same old (racial) politics.” From the Farrakhan Test (and that ain’t the only time they tried to ‘Jesse’ him… that’s some 20 year old+ ‘same old’ politics); to the thing when he wrongly concede that Michelle Obama misspoke or whatever for voicing her “pride” in people not just griping about the political process but getting involved in it (he knew that’s what she said); to now this thing about his pastor that he knew was going to happen because of the constant drip.drip.drip…

The brother has the intellect, I trust that he will see the wisdom in not postponing a national conversation on race and stop acting like whatever issues Black folks have are equally problematic as those as White folks.

I’m seeing this is a slave-breaking, slave-making moment. Either Obama takes these lashes and say, “my name is not Jesse…” or he continues to concede and says, “Toby” under the illusion that this particular principle is something to concede in hopes of it not damaging his level of White support.

IMO, after all those Wiki’s that’s been racked up and after how long people have been digging, trying to make something out of this thing with his church and his (former) pastor… Well, all I got is a little Alice Walker for him/them:

“No person is your friend who demands your silence…”

Simply put, while I don’t agree with Obama’s “terms” — framing Rev. Wright’s remarks as “anger” and “frustration” — it’s time for White America to stop “demanding” Black people “shut up (and) sing” and “pledge allegiance” to persistent racial inequality. It’s time to stop trying to soften our tone to the point of not pointing out what is still going on in this very presidential campaign.

It’s time for White America to grow up and since White anger and resentment is normalized, it’s time to stop acting like Black “anger” isn’t when it is way more justified.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. (They knew about those sermons for some time now). They knew blacks could identify with some of the statements and would in fact defend them. They created the issue just before the NC black vote.

The second bird would be the white Americans they could get to believe that Obama through his long relationship with his pastor, had to know of and possibly be participating in hateful unpatriotic behavior. Many know it's not, but the idea is to call it hate and play on human emotions and in turn have us talking about the statements and not about whether the statements are in fact hatred. This is creating a situation to compound the problems he is already facing in Pennsylvania. And, in all likelihood, will hinder his chance of gaining white votes down the road.

The Hill/Gerry anger is about factions of the Democratic party finding a candidate who could possibly beat Clinton. One who could take the black base and also bring along the white base who will not support Clinton in any way. In my opinon, very neccessary and also very clever. This is why the Hillary campaign has referred to him as the Affirmative Action candidate. This reference is out of the anger they are feeling about being beat at their own game so far. (This also explains Bill's anger in SC.). So they used that anger to bring along the white woman. This is also the reason Hillary is willing to screw the Democratic party in the fall. She's feels betrayed by the party for finding someone to take her out.

The Democratic party knows that it will be difficult for Hillary to win a general election (especially without the black vote)and let's face it there are many who don't want to struggle through another Clinton Whitehouse.

I imagine there are many who would like to diassociate from the Clinton power machine.

So folks hold on, you haven't seen all you're going to see!

Barack has to not only fight the Republican party, but many from within his own party.

Where were they at?

They were inviting Hillary Clinton to their churches and out campaining for her.

Might this be an attempt to kill two birds with one stone?

MSM (It’s leaders and possibly certain Democrats) knew that when they inaccurately reported this story with racial and unpatriotic overtones it would set off a firestorm and create a tide that Senator Obama would have a difficult time turning back.

The first bird would be blacks who can be made to feel as though he betrayed his pastor.
