"I thought I had done a pretty good balance of the percentages of when he had to be the Black Candidate."

Rikyrah,

You most certainly have! Please no that I did not mean to diminish your hurt. While we don't see eye-to-eye on this particular point, I know you only have OUR best interest at heart. I'm relieved that you're not giving up on Brother Barack. He's not perfect by any measure, but he's worth fighting for. And we need you on the front line.

Michael Nutter's right wing talking points don't surprise me.

Clinton was down in a Gallup poll today by 52% to 42%, the first time Obama cracked 50% in the race. The Clintons are hanging from a cliff. They need everyone to do their bidding now. Nutter's timing is to off-set the Casey endorsement, which is proving as big as I expected.

If Nutter can make a few white ethnic fence-setters step over to Clinton or change their minds entirely, then he will have done his job.

I wonder why he wasn't offended by Clinton's own valor theft, why he didn't think that was beyond the pale?

I wonder how popular he'll remain in Philly if Obama makes it to the White House?

When I read SB's blog and the comments, including yours, I thought, "damn, Black folks take one step forward, two steps back, then cut of their foot." I tend to think that Black folks are developing an unrealistic and unhealthy sense of ownership of Senator Obama.

I thought we had long established that he is not running to be President of Black America, but President of the United States of America. He has gotten more votes and money, quite frankly, from white folks than he has black folks. As such, he as to be atuned to the sensitivities of ALL of his supporters, not just his Black supporters simply because we share a color line. Like it or not, most folks, including many Black folks, were offended by what Reverend Wright said. Senator Obama HAS to respect that.

NMP,

I thought I had done a pretty good balance of the percentages of when he had to be the Black Candidate. But, there are times when he has to be the Black Candidate, and if Black folks can't count on him during those times, then what's up with supporting him?

But, I'm gonna keep on supporting him, because I believe I should and he IS the best candidate in the race.

I don't think I ask him to be ' The Black Candidate' nearly as much as other folks.

But, I hear ya, and I'm glad we're discussing it like this.

Craig Hickman,

thank you for dropping us what's happening in Maine.

I want to thank all of the posters here, because some of you have made me step back and think seriously on this situation from angles that I had not considered.

It's pretty impetuous to not endorse a candidate based on him having supported your opponent, especially when that candidate(Barack) is most likely to win the Presidency. Is he trying to hurt Barack's feelings?? LOL....and as I type this, CNN shows a clip of Nutter. The word "trifling" comes to mind.

Truthseeker is obviously going through some things right now... ya'll will have to excuse him and his delusions. lol

Is that the ONLY way toward reconciliation? What if the other side refuses respect, refuses to understand?

I mean, seriously... All I can do is laugh. I guess he never made a strawman (of his own) that he ever liked. Build the sucker up, just to tear it down. lol

Do you hold your ground until you receive what you may never receive? Is there another way to reconcile?

Okay, let me try.

1. Do you actually have a reason for these idiotic, pointless questions?
2. Did I just answer my own question or is there another way to communicate just how convoluted and contradictory TS' string of questions are?

Should you care whether they respect or understand you? Are you able to live happily without their understanding? And if so, should you?

1. Are you mad about Harry?
2. Is Harry just mad about you?
3. If he is? Does that make for a happy same-sex relationship? Should you be involved in a same-sex relationship? or should you have a V8?

Michael Nutter's disdain for Obama is based upon a personal and political vendetta. Obama endorsed a mayoral opponent over him so that's that. This is political payback and Nutter can't help himself to make it personal as well.

Whether or not he's a sellout, he's waging war against Obama.

Now where's the link? I haven't even read his commentary yet.

I observe that many black folks are drawn fatally to the darkness. I cheer for my team, but I am getting impatient, bored with their losing streak. I don't want to hear any more excuses. I don't want to be overwhelmed by small things. I am no longer satisfied with small victories. Small victories can no longer hold my interest.

If I was a child of the "black church", I would be fixin' to give them a serious talking to. I'd be gettin' ready to tell them off, not defend them. I'd be ready to judge them as they have judged. I'd be pissed off that they lost the faith, that they made peace with losing. I'd be hopping mad that they - the supposed keepers of the flame - had let that flame go out. I'd be enraged that they got caught unprepared for a Barack and were caught acting a fool. I'd be mad that they were caught with no oil in their lamps. I'd be asking them why'd they lie to me?

I'd be furious that they made peace with the hypocrites on my behalf..coddling the philandering swine and his insane wife so that they could return to poison my well. How come they didn't discern their true characters? Didn't the "holy spirit" speak to them? I'd be asking some serious questions.

@ rhondacoca

I mean, Barack was playing in rice fields in Indonesia, with a white mother and an Indonesian stepdad. He didn't go to Sunday school in a black church. He didn't grow up hearing about HIV conspiracies. I imagine he learned about religions without any strong indoctrination. I think that may have inoculated him against a strong emotional attachment to religion/church/pastor.

re your comment:
in addition, reconciliation is achieved through understanding and respect.

Is that the ONLY way toward reconciliation? What if the other side refuses respect, refuses to understand? Do you hold your ground until you receive what you may never receive? Is there another way to reconcile? Should you care whether they respect or understand you? Are you able to live happily without their understanding? And if so, should you?

He didn’t grow up hearing about HIV conspiracies.

Let me but in here because some of you are getting off topic.

1. Do we know if the church knew that they were sellign the tapes to the media? I have been told that one could buy the tapes throught the webiste, I can be wrong.

2. When Rev. Wright was talking about Hillary (for those of u who still dont get it) he was talking to the black Clinton supporters who have been talking about how "black" the Clintons are while rejecting Obama because he isnt black enough.

3. Everyone who has any relation to Obama whether it be TUCC and Wright, Obama's campaign or Obama himself has themselves to blame for allowing the media to be the ones to frame this story. It was me, me telling everyone for the past year that this would be a problem because I know they will do something to frame it in a way like they have. They should have been on top of it but they were not. Now they have all learned their lessons. Duh...they should have been more careful, I have been saying this for a while now and people have been shutting me down then it blew up into something it didnt have to blow up into.

4. In addition, my new roommate is from Chicago and has gone to that church, she is telling me that they are completely rooting for Obama. I love how everyone is trying to make them look like the enemy.

P.S. Rev. Wright has a no interview policy like Chelsea Clinton. It has been like that since last year.

5. In addition, please let people know that just because America may potentially have a black president doesnt mean that race is no longer an issue in this country. Obama had to come santized and "pasteurized" in order to be accepted. God forbid he has any connection to black folk or culture, he is doomed. That does not say much about this country. I work in the fashion industry, the only reason why I am their beloved token at my company is because I compromise, bend backwards, bite my tongue, smile, act clueless at times and I leave parts of myself feelings and existence at home. One would call me a "sell out" and trust me I dont feel good about it. I wonder sometimes if its worth it but then again I look at it hoping that these are the means I must take to get to my desired place. That doesnt mean that my company is at all accepting...they are not.

Also, that crap about Obama not running for president of black folk...duH!! duh!! However does that mean that everyone should shut up and fall in line. No! Its simply called accountability.

"The majority of Negro political leaders do not ascend to prominence on the shoulders of mass support. Although genuinely popular leaders are now emerging, most are still selected by white leadership, elevated to position, supplied with resources and inevitably subjected to white control. The mass of Negroes nurtures a healthy suspicion toward this manufactured leader, who spends little time in persuading them that he embodies personal integrity, commitment and ability and offers few programs and less service. Tragically, he is in too many respects not a fighter for a new life but a figurehead of the old one. Hence, very few Negro political leaders are impressive or illustrious to their constituents. They enjoy only limited loyalty and qualified support"- MLK Jr.

I still love and support Senator Obama. However I will always give my two sense when neccessary and keep it honest like for example He sucks at bowling!!!

Consider the implications of having a black man as President. How will the idea of Govt. conspiracy to infect blacks with HIV survive?

That's not an intelligent question.

Can the narrative of racism survive?

A Black president Obama will still preside over a country based on WHITE MAJORITY RULE. So, that's also not an intelligent question.

Also, a president isn't a monarch and there are things institutional and structural that Obama, apparently, may not even consider even if he does move to eradicate racism... as if it was ever contingent on the choice or color of a president.

What will it mean to have a President who grew up without the racism narrative programmed into his consciousness?

Unintelligible... Ba-ROCK says:

In the white community, the path to a more perfect union means acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the legacy of discrimination — and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past — are real and must be addressed. Not just with words, but with deeds — by investing in our schools and our communities; by enforcing our civil rights laws and ensuring fairness in our criminal justice system; by providing this generation with ladders of opportunity that were unavailable for previous generations. It requires all Americans to realize that your dreams do not have to come at the expense of my dreams; that investing in the health, welfare, and education of black and brown and white children will ultimately help all of America prosper.

Whether that's "programmed" or not, he's spitting that "narrative" like lyrics to his favorite rap song.

Do blacks REALLY want reconciliation with whites?

It depends on what you mean. It depends on who set the terms and what the terms are. A better question given the history (the historical fact of racism that's it's not Black people who have the problem with Whites, it's the other way around):

Do Whites have the human decency and humility to try to reconcile...?

Racism is a white problem. It's for White folks to resolve and approach reconciliation with Blacks, if anything.

Does it matter if whites never understand where blacks are coming from?

No.

"racism narrative programmed into his consciousness" please elaborate.

In addition, reconciliation is achieved through understanding and respect. I cant tell you last when I got either one. It is obvious also that many white (not all) aren't interested in doing what it takes to bridge the racial divide. They feel that they can suppress our voices, distort them or just completely dismiss them. I was just telling someone today that repeating "post racial" over and over its bridging this large gap.

Consider the implications of having a black man as President. How will the idea of Govt. conspiracy to infect blacks with HIV survive? Can the narrative of racism survive? Who and what organizations benefit financially from those narratives surviving? Barack is biracial. Biracial children are harassed by both blacks and whites. What will it mean to have a biracial President? What will it mean to have a President who grew up without the racism narrative programmed into his consciousness?

Do blacks REALLY want reconciliation with whites?
@ nmp

Great post NMP. I've been thinking along those same lines. Really, Obama has said enough, and his continued defense of Wright only reinforces the illusion that they're connected somehow with regard to his candidacy. I've been wondering why Wright hasn't come out to speak for himself or to defend Barack?! I've been annoyed at the careless release of the dvd's without review, or consideration of what would happen if they got into hostile hands...where is the Church's responsibility in this? I think there is a desire to be confrontational, by thumbing their nose at the establishment, by embracing people like Farahkhan. It's a recklessness - by which the church, and previous candidates tied to the black church have written the template of how to lose!

Barack is the "spirit-child" who walks between both worlds - black and white. His powers depend on remaining spirit. There are forces on both sides that wish to claim him, but if he chooses, he becomes mortal and is rendered powerless. Barack needs to let this Wright issue go and allow Wright and the church to stand up for itself.

Barack writes a new template: how to win!
