He has extremely limited influence on the interior of the country where the bulk of Obama's victories were gained. He certainly doesn't have the ability to arouse a new wave of voters (I heard that there was a 300% increase in the voter turnout in VA) and definitely doesn't influence any Republicans or Independents to convert to Obama. Cynthia Tucker is right - he mattered because he changed the conversation from race to leadership. He mattered in Connecticut. Mass. was never in play though it may have helped at the margins. One of the great things about Obama's victories is that they belong to him and his supporters. Gore and Edwards may jump on late but the early, most important work, was a family affair. I found it crass (and premature) of Clinton supporters crowing about what a loser Kennedy was after Super Tuesday. <br/><br/>Also, from talking to friends/family who don't follow politics closely (let alone during the primaries), Caroline's endorsement had the real impact for them.
