Finally. I thought I was going to have to go door to door with a collection plate. I agree, that the donors should decide their level of funding. The lobbyists and PAC should be prevented from controlling the interests in the general election.

ok so I feel officially good. This week I sent in a modest donation. Any donation from me is a big deal- I’ve been unemployed for a year AND freelance work pays the bills, but just barely and not regularly.

With that I’ll tell you I sent in $25 to Obama’s campaign when I found out there was a donor who would match whatever I sent in this week. At the end of the process I was offered the option to write a note to the donor who matched my pledge. I sent him a note of thanks and sharing my circumstance as indication that my heart doesn’t match my wallet. Minutes later I was involved in an email exchange with the donor who also expressed that this was the first time he or his wife had ever donated to a campaign… how they wanted to seed change in whatever ways they could.

Basically, it was a delightful exchange across socioeconomic groups. I felt GOOD. Ya’ll hear me? GOOD about being a part of this wave of community and inspired that there are others like me who haven’t for so long to believe in rhetoric which now feels like truth.

If you have the money bloggers… get on it. Please.

I agree that Obama should reject public financing and let the donors decide how much money will be available for his campaign. I just don’t want to see him handicapped, and I know that the Republicans will spending millions to defeat him through 527′s and other methods.

Just the overwhelming predominance of white men as commentators on talk shows, for example, serves as an indirect corporate subsidy for the white male supremacy paradigm from which John McCain will benefit as the candidate of the paradigm. It subtly shapes people’s perceptions of who “should” be involved in political discourse and Barack Obama must change those perceptions to be successful politically.

Considering that Obama is running against an unbroken 43-term string of white male presidencies and vice presidencies, there will never be a truly level playing field in this election and so he has to maintain every asset he can possibly have in his favor.

The people have spoken and Barack has already managed to weaken if not completely shred the Clinton machine. Nobody thought he could do that. Money is power and he needs public financing.
