I wonder if we will all be issued prayer rugs if Obama is elected. His words were "he will stand with the muslems when times get bad" or something to the sort. Seems that "In God We Trust" is a bad phrase nowdays.

'I pledge allegance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the democrats who brought it down.
One nation under Allah with wellfare and medicaid for all'

May God bless us all, and save us from ourselfs.

I took this from a blogger on Obama's website.

"Republican from Orange County, CA
By Dave Rugh - Feb 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pm EST

I am a registered Republican from Orange County; a fiscal conservative and social moderate; this is why I support Senator Obama for President.

Protecting the Constitution

I am very concerned about changes pushed by the current administration that abridge our rights and liberties as US Citizens.

Recently the administration pushed for retroactive immunity for the telecoms for cooperating with the (IMO illegal) warrantless wiretapping program; Senators Dodd and Feingold attempted to strip out the retroactive immunity provision with an amendment. As in the vote for the Iraq war, Senator Obama was on the right side of this issue, Senator McCain was on the wrong side.

Protecting the Blood & Treasure of this Great Nation

I am very concerned by how the current administration has squandered the blood and treasure of this great nation on an ill-advised war. Like many Americans, I took our President at his word when he took us to war based on the threat of WMD. We should have asked tougher questions and held the administration accountable when it became clear that their analysis was faulty. We need to redirect the resources of our military to go after Bin Laden and Al Qaeda in the tribal regions of Pakistan, rather than using them to go after a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

Inspiring Fellow Americans to break out of the Cycle of Poverty

Like most Americans, I would support spending on effective social programs where the benefits are clearly greater than the costs. As a community organizer in Chicago's south side neighborhoods, I believe Senator Obama can bring fresh insights into how we can help those people break out of their cycles of poverty. I am reading Sudhir Venkatesh's book on the housing projects of Chicago; I believe there is a great opportunity for change there. Sometimes it isn't just about money; I believe a little inspiration can be even more powerful than cash, and the historic opportunity of having someone from a broken home and humble beginnings attain the highest office in the land should be great inspiration.

Foreign Policy

I grew up in the Middle East in the '70s when the US was admired around the globe for our system of democracy and the openness and transparency of our institutions. After Vietnam, we wisely got out of the nation building business and pretty much stayed out of that business until it became the justification of last resort for the Iraq war. Beyond the cost in blood and dollars, the Iraq war is taking away our focus from other areas that need our focus such as the Palestinian issue and Darfur.

Communication

Like John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, Senator Obama is a gifted communicator. It is important that the leader of our country communicates with us not in a way that divides us, in all the ways that we can be divided, but in a way that inspires us to come together in a common purpose."

Well, Adelfa Callejo and her comments come as no surprise, after all, the Clinton's have told the Hispanic community how vital they are for her to win, and, insulted blacks to them to get their votes like they did in Nevada and California. But, at the same time, it shows that the rift between blacks and hispanics is nothing new, this woman is almost 100 and she is out spewing nonsense.

As for the GOP being perceived as "racist" they have never said they weren't have they? Keep it real, the whole Southern strategy of the GOP was and still is based on one thing "race," sorry, can't change the rules without telling and keeping it real. The Republican party and the race card they started with Goldwater and have kept playing up until the current Bush is not that hard to find information on, since everyone knows it and any search engine can show it.

After about twenty minutes of conversation, I'm convinced I persuaded my favorite employee at my favorite convenience store to switch his vote from Ron Paul to Barack Obama tonight.

And I'm in Ohio.

We're really trying to bring it, just so you all know. This weekend is going to be intense with canvassing... one million doors to knock in Ohio.

Excellent post... it keeps us pumped here in Ohio!

Anon #6,

You are clearly asserting that conservatives and the GOP on the whole are racist!

This is not true!

The stage is set and "Racism!" will be the battle cry for Dems whenever necessary.
It is unfortunate that while Obama claims to want to take the issue of race out of this election, his supporters are so willing to interject it so freely. I am a conservative, and I will not vote for him because of his positions on the war and taxes. There is nothing racist about that! How can Obama heal this country when so many of his own supporters use racism, race-baiting, bigotry and hate to rally support against McCain?

Anon from IL,

I,too, voted for Mr. Obama for the Senate race. I voted for his abilities, stands on the issues, and is abilities to represent all Illinoisans. If, at that time, we would have lowered the tv volume during any of his speeches, we would have been grabbed by the visuals of 2 black men campaigning to become our Senator. Yet, if we had the volume adjusted for hearing, we would have been scared out of our pants by the out-to-lunch, off-the-wall, and plain wrong diatribes of Alan Keyes.

So, get real. Nobody was fooled by that campaign. What you see is what you get and what we saw was bad hoodoo from the Republican party of Illinois and on the other side, a State Senator who could go on to great things.

Truth be told, if I was in one of these later states after McCain picks up the nomination, I would consider voting for Obama in a primary. My policy issues with him aside, he is much more intelligent that Clinton.

Obama does have one thing with McCain; both of them have a level of sincerity that is unequaled among the remaining candidates (I don't question Huckabee's sincerity, and I think we all know Clinton is fake as hell). A series of debates where the "straight talk" comes from the candidates on BOTH sindes may be what this country needs to see what's really at stake.

As long as those Republicans who chose to do this get back in line come the general election (smile), I'm all for it.

Higher taxes. Expanded government. Anti-war. Anti-corporate, anti-free trade, populist. Pro-choice.

I see more than a charismatic, smooth talkin', politician.

Most Republican I know, widely acknowledge Obama's eloquence and charisma. They admire his oratory skill and his personal grace. These are all excellent attributes for a Presidential Candidate to have. However, should we really be asked to simply watch him with the sound turned off!? Should we really be asked to put aside ideological and policy differences because his 'diverse' supporters are swooning?
Sorry, can't do it. I elected him to the Senate based on his appearance and charisma, and I got someone to the left of Dick Durbin!

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...
