Washington Post Series "Being a Black Man"

I’m not sure how I missed this enormous WaPo special.

Has anyone been following it?
Has anyone purchased the book released this past summer?
Would love to know your thoughts if you have.

I discovered it today when I saw this article by fellow comic Jordan Carlos (you may recall him as Colber’s “black friend”) on being a black comedian and actor.

More nuanced than most books on black men, which is probably why it’s not as well-known as throw away reads such as Bill Cosby’s sickening steep in stereotypes, Come on People.
The articles provided an outlook on and perspective from several different types of black men. The data was succinct. The op-ed was incisive. I suggest it’s one of the best non-fiction books on our demographic.

yeah. this series fronted for a lot of its run.
it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really say anything new.

The author made the Daily Show and the Colbert Report look bad because they want to appeal to Black audiences while not employing Black writers on their staff.
Y’all know what happened to “In Living Color” when the white boys took over and showed Keenan Ivory Wayans the door, along with the rest of his family. I mean, even with the occasional appearance after Damon left, the show was still funny until Keenan and his staff writers walked.
It died a merciful death and none too soon. As a matter of fact, I stopped watching Colbert after he started showing the picture of the “Black Friend, Alan” he shows ala Bill O’Reilly.
