No dear lady, you don't have to be making anything up. In the US, we do not have to imagine racial slights. They are pretty much a constant, like the weather.

What I am saying is that if I was in charge of high level PR for the Obama campaign I'd make sure that there was a mechanism to feed a new one of these insults and slights into the hopper every few days just to keep the folks fired up who get fired up about such things. I'm sure I wouldn't have to fake the incidents. All I'd have to do is make sure there was a new one to talk about every three or four days, when the buzz on the last one died down.

Like the pickup truck dragging the chain on the 2000 pre-election mailer. Are there real pickups dragging chains? Sure. Is it cynical and manipulative? Yep.

Please, let us all take the Senator's lead.

As people of minority races often have, we still have to (for the time being)ignore these slights, subtleties and things of the like for the greater gain.

I agree with the post that suggests that the goal is to get us to self implode by making this about race. The truth of the matter is that a lot of us don't really care about color. THIS IS POLITRICKS.

Hillary and Bill Clinton would not accidently make comments about the Civil Rights movement (though I originally thought the comments were made out of anger) and Senator Barack's campaign being a "fairy tale". Those statements, as were many, were intended to incite and to ignite the debate of us against them taking away from the Senator's intentions which are for "us" the American people.

Let them talk themselves out of nomination while we wait quietly in the background working to advance the cause we really believe in which is a better place for all of us. That's all any minority ever really wanted (to be part of "us")

Clear heads will prevail - angry ones will display their stupidity. We have witnessed this in many comments made thus far. Some are finding it hard to hide the anger they feel about the large amount of voters who, in the past, were taken for granted now having a campaign that they can truly identify with and while they would like us to belive it's about color,we know better. And shame on those who dont! They can no longer take a large group of voters for granted, nor can they stand the fact that a large percentage of those voters have decided that they will think for themselves and support a candiate that stirs up feelings and dreams in them that they had long forgotten or ever thought were possible.

FYI: Hillary pulled the tear thing again!

CNN showed her talking with people in Nevada. A lady was telling everyone her experience with the subprime mortgages. When she finished, Hillary took her finger and wiped her eye as if wiping a tear.

Thank you! I'm just another random white guy for Obama, but I've totally noticed that constant tone of, "who does this uppity black fellow think he is?" coming from the Clinton people. He has been in office for four more years than she has, but that was just "part time work". He has an actual vision for America, but that's just a "fairy tale". And now they have the nerve to attack his supporters as deluded! Ugh! These people deserve to lose, even if that means losing to a Republican. And Obama supporters need to keep repeating the word "divisive" every time someone says the word Clinton.

Brother Dixon,

While this last one was attributed to an ' Unnamed Clinton Official', the rest of our list is attached to open and declared supporters of Hillary.

I know what I read. I sure in heck know what I see on tv.

Are you too, going to tell me that I'm imagining things?

BTW, when the Edwards camp said stupid stuff, we've posted on that too.

Think you are onto something white guy from New England.

The Obama campaign have to remain above the fray. They cannot be goaded into responding to these subtle racist jabs and making it about race.

This underscores the difficulty that Obama has in running for office. He's obviously someone who understands and cares deeply about issues of racial justice, but he has to always speak about such matters obliquely, in order to avoid making his candidacy one of narrow racial appeal. Similarly, while we all know there is a racial subtext in the Clinton attacks and while Obama knows this, I think he is shrewd enough not call them out on it.

If Obama wants to beat this, he needs to start talking about his plans and policies in his speeches. He also should point out that Hillary is BFF with Ruport Murdoch (who is trying to buy up every media outlet to promote his GOP agenda), as well as bring up that Karl Rove is praising Hillary: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119992615845679531.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

No doubt that the GOP wants her to win because that an automatic 4 years in the White House for them, so they send in the architecht himself to manipulate the masses.

to the anonymous white guy from New England:

I couldn't agree more. A big part of Obama's strategy has been so side-step race or not speak to it directly, and he's done so rather shrewdly. It's unfortunate, but you could argue that it's politically necessary, and you'd get no quarrel from me.

One of the things that would really do in Obama's candidacy is the sudden racialization of his campaign. I think these comments, if they are coordinated, aren't necessarily *racist* in the strictest sense. I do think they are a very cynical, indirect attempts to chip away at Obama's 'postracialism' (whatever the hell that even means).

Have you ever considered that the blowing of this particular whistle twice a week, every week might be a tactic to rally the troops around Barack Obama and get in the way of any nuanced or critical evaluation of his candidacy.

It's not like the hacks are exactly above this kind of thing, y'know. Remember the mailings they did right before the 2000 election to African American households all over the country (everybody in my precinct in Chicago got them) featuring a bloody chain dragged by a pickup truck?

Could it be that some of us are being manipulated here by these regular alarms?

As for the right tone, I think it's trying to say we want America to be united. There's a way to counter this to make Clinton sound like Karl Rove. Obama succeeded when he was doing that before Iowa. His supporters should follow his lead. I think the only way to get this out of the media's head is a strong debate performance with a very good sound bite on the 15th. It shouldn't be that way, but unfortunately the media thinks in easy to digest sound bites. I'm praying for that to happen.

The only way to stop this shit is to beat it. Politicians stop doing things that lead to defeat. So we have to beat it--beat it in Nevada, beat it in South Carolina, beat it on Super Tuesday.

The good news is that Obama has a very good grass roots donor list. 20,000 donations the day after New Hampshire. He's been raising $1 million a day. Meanwhile, Clinton has burned through $85 million of her campaign's cash (rumor about Obama is $60 million). So he has more money, which means he can compete in more states on Super Tuesday.

We can help to beat this by donating as much as we can, and by volunteering as much as we can. I live in a state that doesn't vote until the 12th, so I imagine I'll be driving over to Delaware to volunteer there. A campaign like this is won door step by door step. I think people should keep noting when the Clintons pull crap like this, but I'm going outside today :).

We can help to beat this by donating as much as we can, and by volunteering as much as we can. I live in a state that doesn’t vote until the 12th, so I imagine I’ll be driving over to Delaware to volunteer there. A campaign like this is won door step by door step. I think people should keep noting when the Clintons pull crap like this, but I’m going outside today :).

"the attacks from the KKKlintons"

Sweeet. I've been pulling on every last punnifying, sarcasticizing neuron in my brain-- my underevolved Negro primate brain of course, as the Clintons would say-- and I never came anywhere close to coming up with something like that. KKKlintons is perfect. It's just gotta go viral.

And for what that's worth, make no mistake, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are the enemies of the African-American and Latino communities, in fact they're our archenemies, by far our most dangerous foes since they pose as friends while preparing our demise behind their backs. Thus we must not only, not vote for the Clintons, ever-- we have to actively work, with all the passion we can muster, to bring the Clintons down, to be ruthless and unsparing and unceasing in destroying the Clintons' campaign.

I posted this first over at Oliver W's blog but I wanted to repost it here, just to go venting the spleen a bit if nothing else:

Like they say, talk like a racist, bark like a racist, mouth horses**t like a racist, and it becomes pretty damn obvious, the Clintons and their campaign are racists of the most repugnant kind, at the very least using blatantly racist innuendo in the most vile fashion to turn Obama from An American Candidate into That Scary Black Man at the Podium That Whites Must Always Be Wary of. And to think at some point I actually liked the Clintons.

The hip black friend swipe, on top of Bill "where's my KKK hood, that way I can hide it" Clinton's declaration of Obama as a kid swipe (ooh, dog-whistle, dog-whistle for white voters, where can I get me one?!), on top of Hillary's little "man that MLK mighta had some cute ideas and all but with his brains all spilled out on the pavement when he got too uppity, it took a white hero LBJ to get it done" swipe, on top of Andrew Cuomo's talk of shuckin' it and jivin' it, on top of Mark Penn and Bill Sheehan and their cute little "oh, some people think Barack Obama might be a drug dealer, but no, pure innocent us, no we'd never raise a topic like that" act, on top of Bob Kerrey's "hey, I know some people might think that Barack Obama might be a Muslim Madrassah-raised Muslim-country livin' terrorist-sympathizin' Manchurian candidate but me, now, I'd never think that and oh BTW did I remember to mention that some people might think that 'OBAMA MIGHT BE A MUSLIM MADRASSAH-RAISED TERRORIST SYMPATHIZER' again not that I would actually believe that" act--

and well, you gotta hand it to the Clintons. When Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and their whole entourage do racism, I mean, they don't go for half-measures, they go for the whole hog, the full monty, the whole kit and kaboodle. I mean hey, not even Trent Lott or ol' Strom in their fondest wet dreams coulda come up with a racism display and Black-Boogeyman-scare-the-whites fest like the Clintons have. Gotta love the Clintons' new motto: "Hey, if you're gonna be racist, then dammit, be thorough about it, do it right."

In fact, there's little doubt about what the Clintons are doing right now, getting sossed in their $5 million penthouse with Hillary in her best Marie Antoinette wig, while Bill Clinton gets pecker-sucked by his favorite blow-up doll and Hillary Clinton gives rim jobs for one of the corporate crooks who are her main campaign contributors, with Bill sayin' to Hillary: "Hey, Hill, those Negroes may be dumb but boy are they cute, I mean, we can toss out the worst stream of racist drivel since mah 10th removed cousin, the great Nathan Bedford Forrest, first donned the White hood to put them 'coons in their place, scare the whites away from that uppity coon Barack Obama but then we can still pretend to be civil rights admirers and you know, them coons, they don't know any better, they'd still be coming out to vote for us in November 2008! Ain't America great?"

"Oh Bill, all your talk about election-rigging and now that gleam in your eye when you talk about pulling the wool over those dumb Black monkeys, man it's just so much fun how dumb and easily led those monkeys are, oh Bill, you're gettin' me hot, I haven't been this hot since that anal action foursome with your cousin and that big hunky goat you like to keep in the stable back on the farm, man, Bill, how do you do it?"

Oh, sure, of course, we're all down with that. I mean, us dumb Negroes never could pick up on patterns you know, since we're underevolved monkeys just like the Clinton campaign team has picked up on, without the frontal lobar capacity to realize when we're being played for fools and when the Clintons, desperate for a nice Black lawn jockey to decorate their campaign pictures but determined never to allow a Black executive, put up their best Jim Crow routine since some Klan regulars started moonlighting in Blackface on the vaudeville circuit.

Switching to somewhat less sardonic mode now:
Oliver, I'm tellin' you it's about to get damn nasty, there are Black communities already smoldering and about to explode with anger at the Clintons for this, and I'm not talking calm cool protests, I'm talking the cities burning down like Detroit and Watts kind. The rage in the air is so palpable you can cut it with a knife.

The fix is already in for the South Carolina primaries-- there are no paper ballots there and no paper trail, just those touch-screen tailor-made vote-riggers with no audits feasible, something that a starting tech at Radio Shack could hack in under 5 minutes, they also showed this on HBO not too many moons ago. I took some programming classes for my accounting training back in the day, and even then, it's as simple as inserting an easy loop code "For every G number of votes for Candidate A, change the Gth vote to one for Candidate B." And since the source code is proprietary, there is no method to check it at any point. The Clintons are preparing to rig the whole thing.

For those of us in South Carolina and nationwide, that's why it's essential to insist on
1. Paper ballots only, like they use in every other country that considers itself a civilized republic, multiple-counted by independent workers as well as campaign reps with outside election monitors to audit the whole process, to ensure accuracy (RAISE HELL ABOUT THIS! go to the South Carolina courthouse steps if necessary to demand it) and
2. More importantly, that every single eligible African-American in South Carolina go out and vote, just go and vote like you've never voted before or if you've never voted before, because your voting slip and your communications to exit pollsters are the only means we have available to call BS on the fraud that the Clintons are preparing to perpetrate with the hackable machines.

Along similar lines, never, ever cast a vote for Bill or Hillary Clinton, ever again, in a primary or in any type of election. They are a dangerous disease for this country with their naked ambition and resort to open racism to split the country apart for their own personal gain, and they're cursed with some nasty consequences for perpetrating this. If Hillary Clinton gets nominated with the stench of this fraud in the air and the racism they're manifestly using against Obama, all hell is gonna break loose. The country's gonna burn, burn, burn, from sea to gleaming shining sea.

I heard about the Tavis thing but I can't bear to listen to it because I'll want to kill someone. I HATE Tavis Smiley. Yeah, I said HATE. He's a race hustler beyong compare. People can talk about Al and Jesse all they want, but at least they actually do stuff. Tavis doesn't do anything but criticize Barack and hold forums, aka book fairs to sell his poorly written drivel he claims is the black bible.

Totally agree here. Hey invokes the "holy" Covenant book in the audio. I think he really thought he was going to have some big influence and was probably surprised by the backlash.

Can't stand him. And the man is INSANELY jealous of Barack. Insanely.

I wouldn't know if he's jealous of Barack, but I totally get the vibe that he doesn't like him. Probably moreso intimidated by Barack who is lightyears ahead of him intellectually, frankly.

Total handerchief head, that one. Not to mentiona closet case of epic proportions. I don't konw if he's againt gay rights, so I'll refrain from calling him a hypocrite on that issue.

I've heard this too but who knows. But he would never come out because the civil rights establishment would never approve.

The Obama Campaign has alleged NOTHING, yet she tries to SPIN this as if this was all initiated by the Obama Camp. Is this hephyr crazy?

Clearly she has not been paying attention. Maybe some of her constituents should email the links to the articles that mentioned the race-tinged comments by Bill Shaheen, Penn, Cuomo, etc.

Her statement makes no sense and shows that she (and/or her staff) don't follow the news. These stupid comments by the Clinton camp has been all over the black blogosphere WITH LINKS - for some time now. A little research would go a long way.

I'm a white guy from New England, so take this for what it's worth, but I've been reading this blog with a lot of interest. This has been mentioned before by someone here, but it seems worth repeating that much of what the Clintons do is probably meant to be indirect rather than direct. It's about provoking a reaction in the opponent, that ends up achieving the real aim. An example is Hillary's 'tears' before NH. My sense is that the effect, intended or not, was not what everyone says (that it 'humanized' Hillary) but that it provoked a reaction from men in the press about her inauthenticity that was itself unattractive (also Obama's comment in the debate that she is 'likeable enough'. Why say that?). It's not about wounding Obama directly, but leading him and his supporters into wounding themselves. The problem of how to deal with all of the race-baiting is difficult, and I don't envy those who are trying to figure out the right reaction. But the Clintons aren't stupid. As a committed Obama supporter, I worry that all of these little Clinton 'mistakes' are precisely meant to provoke Obama's suppporters into turning the campaign into a referendum on race. If that happens, or is seen to happen, it absolves the Clintons of having themselves made it about race in the first place, but allows them to achieve their real goal, which is to divide Obama's base. Apart from its effect on black voters, it might turn off enough of Obama's white support, some of which sees Obama's appeal as being somehow post-racial, which is exactly what the Clintons are hoping for.

It's not just Tavis...now Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio is attacking...From the Washington Post:
Tubbs-Jones described the Obama allegation as "a tactic to diminish their [The Clintons] support in the African American community."The Obama campaign's goal, she said, is to "nick at you and come up with something that may well stick."

"And I personally was offended that they would think the African American community is going to be blinded by their allegations," she said.

The Obama Campaign has alleged NOTHING, yet she tries to SPIN this as if this was all initiated by the Obama Camp. Is this hephyr crazy?

If something makes you angry enough to shout, sometimes you've got to shout it out. These folks need to be shouted down the same way Bush suppporters shouted down the election officials in Florida.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio is attacking…From the Washington Post:
Tubbs-Jones described the Obama allegation as “a tactic to diminish their [The Clintons] support in the African American community.”The Obama campaign’s goal, she said, is to “nick at you and come up with something that may well stick.”

“And I personally was offended that they would think the African American community is going to be blinded by their allegations,” she said.

The Obama Campaign has alleged NOTHING, yet she tries to SPIN this as if this was all initiated by the Obama Camp. Is this hephyr crazy?

If something makes you angry enough to shout, sometimes you’ve got to shout it out. These folks need to be shouted down the same way Bush suppporters shouted down the election officials in Florida.
