Live Blogging the Heartland Democratic Presidential Forum

Hey folks,

I’ve been participating in TV One’s blogging experiment for this afternoon’s 2:30pm Democratic presidential forum and put up three posts this week on Clinton, Edwards and Obama. When covering live events, I’ve usually put it in my Twitter, but Wednesday night I was impressed with the live blogging of techpresident, so I decided to give CoverItLive (the service techpresident used) a shot.

You can submit comments throughout, though I have to approve them. I’m embedding the liveblog window at baratunde.com and Jack & Jill Politics. Hopefully comments from both sites show up in the same window. The debate starts at 2:30pm ET. I’ll just be messing around until then, experimenting with the software.

I just did a cursory glance of the live blog transcript, and excuse me if I missed it, but it seems that you didn’t zone in on the biggest news of the day: Hillary Clinton opposes retroactivity for crack cocaine convictions!
Black folks have been decrying the injustice of the disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine sentencing for decades now. However, they never held Bill Clinton responsible for vetoing his own sentencing commission’s guidelines to end the disparity. Now today Hillary Clinton continues his cowardly legacy by coming out against retroactivity that would lessen the sentences of those currently serving time. Is she going to get a pass too??? Let’s see how her Black supporters spin this!

NMP, it really frightened me to think I missed such a massive point. At one point during Clinton’s segment, my stream went down. I just went back and replayed that section of the forum, however, and I did not hear ANY mention of crack vs. cocaine sentencing during the Clinton segment.
all I heard were questions on immigration and health care for Clinton.
after some web searching, i found what you’re referring to and it happened later on saturday at the Black and Brown debate, which is different from the event I covered.
Here are two different stories on the issue, and you’re right. Time to blow this news up BIG TIME.

My apologies!!! It seems that two minority forums in one day was a little much for the MSM to cover with confusing the two. :-) She made the remarks at the Black and Brown Forum after the Heartland Forum. The question now begs is the Black press finally going to stop asking why Senator Obama isn’t getting the love of Black folks and asking do the Clinton truly deserve our love?
