dnA:

I get two themes from your thread:

1) You are attempting to attach Fox News and Juan Williams at the hip because you obviously don't like Fox News.

2) You have suddenly seen the importance of "a counter point" being included in all discussions on Black America.

Regarding #1 - Mr. Williams is a member of the NPR team as well. Why didn't you choose to make repeated references to "NPR"? You talk as if ones association with an unsavory (of course in your view - unsavory) is a damnable offense. I don't recall hearing anything about Obama's recent visit with Ludacris or Timbaland attending a political event for Hillary Clinton. Neither of their works will be appearing on the Disney Channel any time soon.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/20/AR2007042001589.html

Regarding #2 - There is a vast array of Black Progressives who hold unicast meetings more often than not as they make pronouncements about their views about Black America. I am sure that you have a list of protest letters regarding their need to follow the "Fairness Doctrine"?

When "Tavis And Friends" assembled their "All White Jury" to inspect Clarence Thomas - you were all of it - weren't you?
http://withintheblackcommunity.blogspot.com/2007/10/tavis-smileys-all-white-jury.html

It's one thing to dislike Juan Williams, which you obviously do; and another to make the claim that rap/hiphop did not have a negative impact on black women, because white women are objectified, and they do well with it. I don't care if you hate on Williams. I care that you're willing to ignore the damage done to black people by the unbalanced, amoral, and wholly unjust negative depictions by rappers and hip hoppers. Black women do not have the balance of being cherished publicly, to counter the negativity of rap/hip hop. Would you deny that it has created greater misogyny and more thugs? I hope not. And no, it isn't a construct operating in a vacuum. The Southern Strategy of utilizing racism as a political tool for whites has not helped us. But rap and hip hop sure as hell hasn't helped either.

I addressed this on my own blog, and I wondered whether this is really a values difference based on ethnicity instead of a values difference based on class. The Pew/NPR poll didn't discuss ethnicity, and not all black Americans share the same ethnicity. To the extent that certain ethnicities are overrepresented in the middle class, that might explain the values differences.

It's way too simple to see all black people as one monolithic group.
