dna, I meant the War on Terror, which Iraq is another battleground of. In case you didn't notice, there was-though, through the efforts of our military-a pretty big al-Qaeda contingent in Iraq not too long ago. The fact that there isn't anymore is one of the signs of progress that most people refuse to acknolwedge.

Do you believe that the assumed inferiority of Black people as being poor or victims of systematic attempts against us to explain the problems within our community HAS NO ROOTS in Racist Paternalism by the White Liberals and their Black Liberal lackeys?

No. But recent Democratic debates haven't degenerated into anti-immigrant or anti-arab race baiting. Given the coveted place race-baiting has in the current electoral strategy of the Republican Party, it's not very surprising that Jill would format her response to the debate in this way.

What, you think if the Democrats weren't doing that we wouldn't be all over it?

"if we pulled all the troops back from the War on Terror and started sending them over for a peacekeeping mission in Darfur, not too many people on the left-or too many African Americans, for that matter-would complain."

I'm sorry did you mean the war in Iraq? Because you must be one of the last people in this country who buys the idea that Saddam Hussein had anything to do with Al Qaeda.

Yeah not too many "people on the left" or "African Americans" would complain if Bush backed up his rhetoric in Darfur with anything resembling an incentive for the genocide to stop. But then again, so would anyone with a conscience.

Race baiting was in quotes because I was quoting the statement as written.

I’m not going to speak to the “scheduling conflicts” issue. I’ve heard about it, and admittedly, the reasons seemed a little shaky to me.

I’m not giving the Republicans a pass. All I’m saying was that in this instance, black voters could well have participated more than they may have (of course, the average will never know, unless CNN/YouTube comes out and says how many questions were submitted by black voters). And that it’s inherently unfair to yell “racist” every time African Americans feel like they were underrepresented.

My statement about Darfur having “nothing to do with al-Qaeda” was referencing the fact the al-Qaeda doesn’t have anything to do-as in, there’s no evidence suggesting that they’re involved or caused-what’s happening in Darfur. Of course Darfur isn’t only important to African Americans….but I’m willing to bet a substantial amount of money that if we pulled all the troops back from the War on Terror and started sending them over for a peacekeeping mission in Darfur, not too many people on the left-or too many African Americans, for that matter-would complain.

Mama watched the debate and she liked Huckabee.

I keep on bringing this up, and folks accuse me of being a religions bigot, but I don't give a rat's ass. I'm not voting for a man who grew up in a religion, that, IN MY LIFETIME, said that I couldn't get into heaven, AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A SLAVE.

Think about that.

I'm not 40 years old, and in my LIFETIME, this man, who came into adulthood LONG before this was CHANGED.

And, as some put forth, he wasn't some Mormon peasant, his family are BIG CHEESE MORMONS, and you don't think that's important, as a Black person?

Come on. I still wouldn't turn my backs on Evangelicals, because they made the wrong decisions during the Civil Rights Movement, and this Mormon thing is even later than that.

So, considering his background, and look up his term as Governor of MASS, you can SEE his non-record with regards to Black folk.

The ridiculousness of his answer on Black-on-Black crime just shouldn't be surprising.

I was shocked at Thompson's Flag answer too.

McCain was very human talking about waterboarding, and his contempt of Romney was palpable.

Huckabee won the night...

LMAO at you talking about the birds chirping as Huckabee made his comments about racial inclusion....why am I not surprised?

LOL

I think I acknowledged that I might have made that word up. And if we take your logic, and say that the “continued race-baiting and hostility of the GOP to minorities” is why a majority of African Americans (which I'm one of) don’t vote for them, then it also explains why too many of us didn’t participate. Either way, it seems like a majority of African Americans CHOSE not to participate or attend. That doesn’t necessarily extend to the Republicans being racist.

You seem awfully anxious to give Republicans a pass for ignoring black voters. Given several opportunities to appear before a black audience, most Republican candidates declined, citing scheduling conflicts. In Giulani's case this amounted to fundraising with Bo Derek. In all cases, the group holding the debate offered to change the venue and date to accomodate the Republican candidates, and they refused. That hardly seems like black voters "choosing" not to attend. That sounds like we're being told we're not welcome.

I just find it fascinating that you put "race baiting" in quotes, as though even Republicans like Lee Atwater haven't openly admitted that race baiting is an essential part of their strategy. It's really not unlike you putting your hands over your ears and screaming at the top of your lungs.

I'm also baffled by you flatly stating that Darfur is "only important to African Americans."

The Bush Administration has referred to the situation in Darfur as genocide. IF Darfur is only important to African Americans, (And it isn't) what does that tell you about the country we live in?

The reason none of the presidential candidates want to discuss Darfur is not because it has "nothing to do with Al Qaeda," but because it has everything to do with Al Qaeda. The Bush Administration has been recieving what it sees as vital information from the Sudanese government on terror networks in Africa for years, and so their action on the genocide on Darfur is exclusively verbal. None of the presidential candidates, right or left, want to damage or otherwise endanger that relationship.

The Bullshit jingoism of the Republican party may make you feel safer, but it doesn't actually make you safer. And neither does their ignoring the issue of darfur.

Wow, um…that’s pretty brutal.

I think I acknowledged that I might have made that word up. Either way, it seems like a majority of African Americans CHOSE not to participate or attend. That doesn’t necessarily extend to the Republicans being racist.

You didn’t mention the Sudan/al-Qaeda relationship. Yes, I know it exists. Your point was Darfur, which doesn’t have anything to do with al-Qaeda. My point was that ANY candidate who starts talking about packing more of our troops off overseas to a conflict that we haven’t been involved in to date-in a time where significant amounts of the populace are trying “support the troops” by bringing them home-is going to find himself unelectable. UNLESS, you’re saying that it’s okay to deploy the military only in causes that are important to African Americans (which the War on Terror actually is), which is racist in itself.

In full disclosure, no, I didn’t watch the democratic debate. (I’m independent, but I side with the right more often than not) Which, if the question was asked (which I’m willing to take your word on), puts us in agreement over whether it’s a question for all candidates or not. Though, I’d love to see what the democrats had to say about that…..

To answer each of your points briefly:

1. "electorical" is not a word, hillbilly and the continued race-baiting and hostility of the GOP to minorities is why we don't vote for them.
2. If you think genocide is not a critical issue, then you need to pull your head out of your behind. Also, the Sudanese gov't has had a long relationship with Al Qaeda. Dumbass.
3. Katrina was one of the questions asked during the CNN/YouTube Dem debate. Or didn't you watch that.
And yes, I think the handling before and in the aftermath of one of America's worst natural disasters and THE worst domestic humanitarian disaster is a valid question for all candidates, particularly the Republicans since they are the ones who screwed it up.

Thanks, GOP troll, for your comments

(random thoughts, in no particular order:)

1. It's always concerned me that no matter what Republicans seem to do or say, they get the "racist" tag. Does it matter that-at least in recent electorical (may have created a word there) history, blacks haven't really supported the Republicans, and maybe THAT'S why there weren't too many in attendance, or asking questions?

2. When did Darfur become a "critical" issue in the election? Last I checked, there's a section of the liberal populace that would rather see U.S. troops on U.S. soil. Well, getting involved in Darfur might involve sending some more troops overseas...or is that "acceptable" now because we're dealing with other black people?

3. Also, is Hurricane Katrina really an issue that we want to choose our next president on? And if so, shouldn't the question be posed to ALL the candidates, not just the Republican ones? Or is this just another way of "showing" that Republicans "don't care," because no one asked them?
