Did Mattel specified that lead amount or no lead in paint. Probably not. Why not? Ask Mattel. Mattel only care selling as much as it can. Chinese businessmen are just OEM. Got it?

I understand your anger. But this thing is not as simple as you wish to think.

Also I read that the standard for lead amount in pain has changed just recently. According to the new standard, it's higherm but not higher if according to the previous US standard.

I think it's also China's faut that it didn't quickly explain why these toys used higher lead in their paint. It sounds like China want to deliberaely harm people in USA.

Also about pet food: China don't see it's unsafe. This type pet food are allowed in China. If US companies don't want that particular additive, they can say that clearly. But why they didn't say that? Perhaps becasue it cost less for the OEM order, until a few unlucky animals died.

Be realistic nowaday. Same toy, if made in China, $10, if made in USA, $50, your kids will end up have nothing to play around.

I've lot to say about this if I have time. Miscomminication, not bad intention, played a big role in these inccidents. Things will get better quickly, because US companies and China's OEM now are more careful. So kits and pets in US can have inexpensive, safe and high quality toys and food again.

Realistically, that's the only way to solve this problem. Both US and China's government seem to understand this and so none of them so far has taken any radical against-each-other measures.

Bless you.

Hi Uncle Sam,
The thing of “toy recall” seems to be not that simple.

Chinese businessmen manufactured these toys to the specifications of Mattel. Though I do understand where you're going with the design flaw argument, all parties are guilty in this and should be held accountable. Case an point: If I were a U.S. contractor hired to plant a garden and someone had a design featuring real marijuana plants, I wouldn't proceed to create the garden and then get annoyed/offended when i got in trouble, provided I knew what marijuana looked like (and I would think I would since if I'm a major contractor getting hired to create lawns I should be familiar with plants, and especially illegal and/or dangerous ones) and/or I knew that it was illegal to grow marijuana in this country.

The heads of the toy manufacturing company knew what paints/trinkets had high concentrations of lead, and they knew that copius amounts of lead in toys were illegal in the U.S., and so (provided we assume that they were just innocently following the designs given to them verbatim) while they didn't necessarily have a legal obligation within their own country to follow U.S. regulations, they did have a moral one, provided of course that they were indeed so genuinely concerned about their company and country's reputation abroad.

I don't think this reflects badly on Chinese people, just on the decision makers for Chinese toy manufacturing companies, American big business and to some extent the elite members of the Chinese government.

I’m sorry jimmie gi, but we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. The apology from Mattel clearly states that the majority of recalls were due to a design flaw. China has been saying that for some time, but the media has refused to point to that fact. Instead China is being vilified and Americans have more evidence to add to fuel their hatred of other people who don't look like them.

I just became a fan of this site, but your post let me down a bit.

There is no lunacy. Mattel designs those toys and has them made by Chinese contract manufacturers. I find it hard to believe they don't specify exactly how those toys should be made, and the materials they should be made with, all the way down to the EXACT kind of paint that should be used. That's why they are apologizing to China.

Listen, Mattel doesn’t look through some Chinese manufacturer’s catalog and say “We want this and this and this”.
