A complete double standard. As soon as we're talking about black people, it becomes racist. The protagonist of Resident Evil 4 was in an island off the coast of Spain, killing Spaniards, like Synbios said. No one complained then.

Quite frankly, I think it's abominable to criticize this game when you don't even bother to do research on the topic at hand. The developer went on record stating that Africa holds the roots of mankind and therefore it is also where the virus began. RE5 is supposed to trace itself back to the roots of the virus.

The game wasn't racist. Now, they've tried to sate hypersensitive ignoramuses like you, they've thrown other races into the mix... in Africa... in tribal villages. It makes zero sense. They should've stuck to their guns, but that doesn't leave people like you blameless.

Frankly, I find it more racist if they purposefully neglected to include Africa. It shows that we don't feel the need to shelter certain races because we're comfortable with our differences... something that someone like you obviously doesn't understand.

I saw no one complaining when Leon S. Kennedy went to Spain and had to shoot angry spanish Ganados in Resident Evil 4.

Yeah, I'm spanish, and I was not offended in anyway about that.

If this were the ONLY video game that was questionable, I'd say, Ok.

But, come on, look at them, especially the violent ones. Why does it seem like the violent ones either:
1. Tap into the very worst stereotypes of the Black community
2. Have killing Black folk as the way to win.

Don't have to go to Africa in this game to get that. There are plenty of ' urban' games that go ' gangsta' and having killing as many of 'us' as possible as the goal.

It's all connected...Connect way more subliminal dots than this one game.

Being as charitable as possible - I played and liked the first couple Resident Evil games as a kid, though I have since mostly forsaken hyper-violent videogames - I can guess that the game's makers did get tired of setting their game in cities, and this was their solution.

It also fits into the existing game world that the bad guys would move to Africa where they could experiment "more freely" and whatnot. Probably some story abouut "decreased government regulation" and "corrupt African officials" or something.

None of the above is designed to justify the game. Given the history of race and racism, this game, I think, cannot help but draw on that history.
