i watched 5 minutes of the new BET Show "Take the Cake"... a game show were you send in a text message and "hope" the show calls you back to answer one of their stupid questions (to win $300). i felt dirty after watching for only 5 minutes (and i think they lowered my IQ by 5 or 6 points in the process).

oh my God, talking about low budget and buffoonery! that's it, i am not watching that network again!

WHY we can't get complex portrayals of Black people on our screen without them being attached to someone not Black?

Girl, At this point, I would just be happy to turn on the tv and NOT see a Black person dancing and singing in a commercial. I don't know any Black folks that get so excited about macaroni 'n cheese, kool-aid or even a car that they break out into song and dance.

P.S.: Anyone out there that still needs proof that we have sunk to an all time low as a people, I suggest you take a look at the 'hottest' video in rotation on BET and MTV, "Hey Bay Bay". I thought it was a joke about the growing minstrelity of hip hop, but no such luck. It's painfully real. They even got a toddler in the video coonin'.

There is a fundamental core belief at BET that poor and middle class black people are "beneath" the BET executives. I said it on my show. i said it on my blog. It is not that these people are negligent or money hungry. They literally hate the people that watch their network. That is why Debra Lee can go to Spelman and say she is in the business of making money, to hell with black women and children being collateral damage.

I'm not sitting around complaining anymore. That's why i burnt up anytime minutes contacting all of those advertisers Monday morning.

Now is the time to change BET's business model. Even if that means supporting al la carte cable, which would be BET's death blow. It would knock them back into the stone ages.

I think one problem might be that the people who are making the shows are ignorant, unintelligent people who don't know any better. If you leave television programming up to children then you would get a bunch of poop jokes and childish crap. If you leave entertainment up to ignorant and unintelligent people then you get ignorant and unintelligent crap. We need to seek out more intelligent entertainment. Maybe we should turn off our tv's and turn to the internet or books instead.

Hey, maybe HBO can make it into a miniseries. They tend to do a good job with that the way they did with Dancing in Seeptember, Disapperaing Acts, and that movie about AIDS starring Queen Latifah.
