I'm down with Bonds (a) because I'm the same age, from the same part of town; (b) because, except for pitching, he's always had baseball talents that no one has ever matched; and (c) because he never bought into the exaggerated reverence of Babe Ruth or Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio.

Am I concerned about the steroid suspicions? No. If he did use them for a short while, he didn't need to. And the rest of America shouldn't be too upset either, given the love that was showered on Mark McGwire after he broke Roger Maris' record while using a little some'm some'm.

But mostly I'm glad about Bonds because he passed over that fraud who was Babe Ruth.

remember that steroids isn't just about the bulk. in his case there are two things to consider:
1. the arms race. he knew that others were using steroids...so he had to ante up to stay competitive. other hitters. other PITCHERS.

2. steroids (from what i understand) reduce the likelihood of injuries in the short term. if you even try to play a 162 game season on playstation you're likely to go out of your skull. imagine doing it at a high level year after year. very very hard on the body.

i don't care whether he used drugs or not. i'll get upset the moment the major leagues start putting asterisks around babe ruth's records because he didn't play with the best competition.
