I get it. I get it. As an activist blogger, I understand the need to keep a campaign going and maintain focus when other people are running around doing other things. The CBC debate is just as important as any of the things I focus on on my blog.
I guess part of my frustration is that the "progressive" blogosphere doesn't seem to be willing to trot out links to African American bloggers unless it suits their purposes. They aren't particularly interested in the plights of African Americans, only in defeating their enemy Fox News.

So part of my criticism was probably directed at you because I also visit their sites and I was thinking " They are posting on this by the hour, but all these other issues get no play at all on their sites." So the victory lap that they were running at the time about all of the major candidates dropping out just seemed as gratuitous exploitation. The hypocrisy was just chafing me. I don't think those progressive bloggers care all that much about black folks issues anymore than they accuse Faux News of being. In sum, what did Black blogs receive in return for providing cover to white progressive bloggers and indirectly top tier presidential candidates?

But I understand the need to celebrate your victories. You put hours and days and months into blogging and sometimes you wonder if you are making an impact and so when you do make an impact, I think it is legitimate to celebrate all victories large and small. I'm sure people think I harp on issues for too long as well.

There are three lessons I have taken out of this.
African American bloggers need to hold elected officials accountable. I hope everyone who worked on this Fox campaign also works on finding primary candidates to challenge the CBC members that supported the debate. The only way to make CBC members more accountable and responsible to African.

Keep up the good work!

What About Our Daughters

I’m sorry. I get it. I get it. As an activist blogger, I understand the need to keep a campaign going and maintain focus when other people are running around doing other things. The CBC debate is just as important as any of the things I focus on on my blog.
I guess part of my frustration is that the “progressive” blogosphere doesn’t seem to be willing to trot out links to African American bloggers unless it suits their purposes. If they can't be accountable about this, then what WILL they be accountable for?

How could you think about legitimizing a media outlet that is outfront in their disrespect. I would add that perhaps too many of us want change that can be placed in a microwave for two minutes.

The type of change we all want will take an enormous amount of persistence to see our goals through the end. This type of persistence doesn't complain by having the BLESSING of reading compelling commentary by brilliant Black people!

Let's remember where we came from and realize that our current freedoms opportunities are a culmination of small victories (most of them arduous, mundane, and forgotten) that our people fought and died for. We are wining and getting tired because there are bigger issues to discuss is lazy, as if to say we can't do both!

That is what sites like this have done and will continue to do. So if you are tired, I would suggest eating some Wheaties because a little more mental and emotional stamina wouldn't hurt,

With love,

Stay up fam,

Brandon Q.

Well said Jill, I will be there with you every step of the way.
