I was kind of taken back but what cam’ron said and just the entire angle of the 60 minutes thing. i dunno, it’s a huge issue that has a lot of components to it. Actually, i just read what some smart hip hop heads like bakari kitwana and jeff chang had to say about cam’ron on 60 minutes and some other things

Co-sign with Angry Independent. Lamont Hill may not have been attempting to defend “Stop Snitching” by comparing the same walls of silence in police departments and the uuper echolons of government. But he comes close enough.

I understand that we shouldn’t hate the player, we should hate the (wall of silence) game. My position, though, is that we shouldn’t even be a player in that game. Cops often stay behind the “blue wall” because they don’t value our community. Politicians hide behind walls of silence because they don’t value their constituency (including Black folk). But where’s the value in refusing to turn in the killer of an innocent Black man, woman or child? Who’s valued by refusing to snitch on the guy who slings crack in our grandmothers’ neighborhoods?

Let’s be careful about drawing some of these moral equivalences. After all, if we don’t take the lead, government ain’t gon’ follow.

It’s true that Black folks did not invent this…. but at the same time, we must be careful not to make excuses for it.

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill came close to defending it…although in a round-about way.

But he did make some good points…. such as the lack of protection for witnesses… this has been and continues to be a serious problem; especially for people in poor neighborhoods who often live among perpetrators and who are more likely to become victims. There should be more programs that involve anonymous reporting. Most major police departments use this method….but they don’t promote it or utilize it nearly enough. Although anonymous reporting has its limits.

There is no good excuse for the type of behavior promoted by Cam’ron or the other Stop Snitching advocates in the Anderson Cooper Report.
