Is anyone as bothered by the "Rent a Negro" webpage ad under the "Tips on coping with Black People" heading on this site as they seem to be about the moronic humor of Don Imus? How about Chris Rock's "Bring the Pain" and other humor that disparages African Americans? And do we need to get to hip hop, gangsta (c)rap et. al.? Something stinks here.......... must be all these nice little piles of rationalized bullshit! Charles Barkley wasn't a role model and neither is Imus. I think Clarence Thomas would call this a "high tech lynching" and then go rent a porno tape of course. There's a real problem eating away at this democracy that doesn't have anything to do with the blabberings of stupid "show-biz" types, wanna-be media pundits and knee-jerk opportunists.
Of course you're all so smart and insightful I'm sure you already know what it is.

Code-Kraker

I personally think that African Americans, women and anyone concerned about Imus's comment. Should BOYCOTT ANY PRODUCTS These advertisers have. Perhaps that will wake them up and allow them a whiff of reality!

Arne

I'm baffled:

Appearing on Sharpton's show, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, a Michigan Democrat and chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, also raised the issue of chauvinism.

"I mean, who says 'hos' publicly?" she asked.

Now thats a real toughie....

The bottom line is that for blacks, there is no spectrum of racism. Something isn't a little racist or kinda racist or very racist. It's all just racist.

You nailed it, and White folks don't seem to want to grasp this not-so-small point.

I find it interesting that, going deeper, we saw a pattern of comments of Imus.

Yet, guess who was never included in his series of insults....guess what group? Yeah, I'll go there.

He knows who he feels he can insult without impunity.

i blogged about this earlier on plezWorld and it now appears that don imus has been given a 2 week vacation for this whole episode to die down.

i don't care about the Al Sharpton SHow, I want Don Imus to sit down in front of the Rutgers University womens basketball team and their parents, and offer an apology and a heartfelt explanation for his evil deeds.

AND i want to be a FATHER in the room when imus explains why he felt it was ok to refer to my daughter as a "nappy-headed ho" ... and i pity the fool who dares to try to pry my fingers from around his crawny neck!

Inter-group critique (jackson and sharpton calling imus out) is always easier than intra-group critique (jackson and the cbc).

I'll just be curious to hear if the blogosphere pressures Democratic candidates to stay off Imus' show, as they've done with the Fox debates.

"Let's not go into how the popularity of "I Love New York" and the negative hyper-sexualizing stereotypes it promulgates about black women, especially those of working class or poor origins."

That's interesting. I found the show offensive for its hypersexual stereotypes of black men, (especially since two of the contestants are brothers, how creepy is that.) Unlike Flava of Love, most of the people on the show are men, so the audience is, for the most part, internalizing their behavior rather than hers.

Did you read about the Rainbow/PUSH protests? Jesse's reaction to Imus is made even more absurd by his reaction to the CBC/Fox debates.
