I can see some of her research playing out in real time, however, I have to question a study that calls the mainstream media "the liberal media establishment." The use of such a long standing conservative talking point makes me wonder what is really behind the study?

I've said this a couple of different places. I think that her work is useful and I'm glad that she got it published. But it was exploratory, meaning that her primary purpose was to use the interviews to do more theory building...from which point she can do theory testing.

If I were doing this work what I'd be interested in doing is examining the degree to which black bloggers were embedded in flesh and blood networks that performed work outside of the internet. I would examine whether the types of political activities that people reported that they did, did in fact occur. I would also question whether black bloggers were more likely to engage in internet political activism compared to other forms. And some other stuff too.

I am particularly interested in the brick and mortar stuff...because I am not convinced that black bloggers as a group are connected to any brick and mortar networks.

I was very interested when I first read about this study. I don't think the professor is wrong about the distinct activist angle of Black Bloggers. I do think that she's missed the debate of the lack of Black Bloggers in the ' mainstream' blogosphere, but that's an issue that the Black blogosphere is working out for itself.

I would like to see her expand it, and tell us if there's a difference between the political spheres of the Black Blogosphere.

Is the Black political right more, less or equal in its activism when compared to the Black political left?

What are the similarities between the Black political right blogosphere and Black political left? Do they have common interests because they are Black, or is the political too wide a divide to breach the common Black heritage?

I'm just an undergrad, but I'm also doing research on this topic. My senior thesis is about new online spaces for strange new forms of political discourse, and blogging is of course an important aspect of this. If you all have any input for me, I'd really appreciate it. That is, if you don't mind my "poking at you with a stick." My research website is http://www.inewsproject.com and you can email me at tanner[at]inewsproject.com for more info. I'm a senior at Bard College. Thanks, Tanner
