When I hear African Americans like Al Sharpton rolling out the line that the Democratic Party takes the Black vote for granted, I think yes, but more importantly, the CBC takes its voters for granted. Most Black House of Rep. politicians come from primarily Black districts. They are suppose to represent the voice of Black people within the party. They go home every two years talking about discrimination, poverty, and equality, then they get reelected, because we are loyal and it takes a miracle to get an incumbent out of office. Back in DC they go about stuffing their personal coffers or refrigerators with money gained from championing the corporation of the day. Two years later they are back in their indiv. districts with the same song. If they think the Democrats don't want to see "Black" issues dominate the party, then phrase it in Progressives terms. The mantra of the Democratic party used to be that it represented the Middle and Working class and the poor. They can talk about and push an agenda that seeks to alleviate poverty, raise the mininum wage, provide health insurance, etc for all Americans. Hell even Katrina, which if you leave out the racial aspect, reflects the utter failure of the Gov't in responding to a national disaster and how inept the Army Corps of Engineer was in its building of the levees. There are so many ways to get attention to the disaster that is New Orleans without ever mentioning race.
