Thanks y'all. The NAACP has always been about their members, the black middle and upper class. The difference is that today, the needs of the black middle class and up have begun to diverge more sharply from the "disadvantaged." (BTW, I am so sick of this word, seriously.) The NAACP was once a force to reckon with. But is the most pressing issue they can find is "economic justice" and the glass ceiling? Is that really all that their members want?

Great Post! Great questions, timely subject. The NAACP has become a shadow of it's past. It is no longer a relevant organization in most African American communities in America. It's claim to fame over the past 20 or so years has been the Image awards. Civil Rights- on the back burner, Human rights-on the back burner, Social Action-on the back burner, Economic development-on the backburner. Styling and profiling at the Image Awards-on the front burner.
