Lieberman already had power and influence. The Democrats don't have enough votes to do anything when half their DINO caucus is making shady deals with the Republicans (Gang of 4), using the Republicans' floor time to make speeches praising Bush and the war, and stabbing them in the back on every important vote. Lieberman never votes with the Dems when it counts, everybody already looks to him at a close vote on an important issue, this doesn't change a damn thing--which is why they went after him in the first place.

Yes, but Jill, Lieberman is spanking Lamont in the polls. And they can't catch up. This is the irony of the chest beating by the "netroots" or whatever. They've sentenced us to Sen. Lieberman as a possible Republican or an Independent who, if the numbers shake out as most expect, will be the person everyone looks at during a close vote on the floor. That gives him more power as an Independent than he would have had as a Democrat. That is NOT what I want to see, Lieberman with actual power and influence (the vp thing was enough).
